How to refinish stainless steel exhaust tip?

i've been cleaning the exhaust tip with carb cleaner to get rid of all the soot, and then a light polish. but it seems like i can never get that spiffy stainless chrome shine anymore. does anyone have some sort of trick to refinishing it so it looks like new, and not a clear brownish new?

Ultra fine steel wool, Mother's Mag & Aluminum Polish

or

2000+ grit wet sand, Mother's Mag & Aluminum Polish

Either way, a majority of the work is Mother's Mag and many, many small circles.

Mother's Mag & Aluminum Polish

i used it when i had a greddy ti-c polished that huge cannon exhaust up pretty good.

now i just use it on my stock exhaust tip
