Ghetto carputer + Evoscan gauges

Ok, it's just an AcerOne netbook on a car stand that I purchased from easylaptopmounts.com... Got Evoscan on it with gauges that I like watching while driving lol, since I don't really have the $$ to purchase real gauges (besides I don't have any skills when it comes to working on cars) :-)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y8_2sMInxLU

Nice thing about it is I can watch videos, play MP3s, log w/ Evoscan, and perhaps buy Microsoft Street & Trips later for GPS functionality :-)

Cost of ghetto project:

Tactrix cable = $170
OBD-II 90-deg extension cable = $15
AcerOne Netbook = $275
Netbook car stand *kit-101 = $50
AcerOne car charger = $15
Evoscan = $25

Total = $ 550

The only pain was installing the carmount (I suck at using tools) :X But the setup is inexpensive and easily removable. Car is 100% stock.

UPDATE: Added a Logitech webcam mounted on the passenger side sun-visor. See sample vid:

Very "danger to manifold"ish...... Just busting chops but that was the first thing I thought of.

So whats the purpose of it? Self-tune down the road or just for fun?

Both :-) I'm on my 16th ROM version! Current one is almost stock , but with a little touch of JDM Mivec, Gunzo's fuel map (tad richer), wider boost range, etc. Also to watch out for knocks, and keeping a close eye on boost levels.

LOL, I was born in the early 70s and I grew up with 80s music... hair bands and all! Sure it's cheesy, but I like to listen to it from time to time. It's just like how I hate crap music nowadays; loud, boomy, trashy, annoying stuff like gangster rap, punk, whatever you call it :-) Each generation has it's own taste & appreciation for music...

Fixem2, I just modded one of the Evoscan sample gauge layouts (it has an "evo" to it), was a bit difficult cuz the editing software is buggy. But I got it to work, showing mode23 stuff like boost psig, rpm, timing, fuel load, coolant, tps, knocksum, etc. It's nice to look at and it also tells me what's going on with the car at all times :-)

Took another vid just this afternoon. Later part of the vid shows how the mount is bolted to the floor. I usually pull the passenger seat forward to further support the stand since my wife rides on the backseat with our baby. Just making sure the thing doesn't flop down during hard accelerations since I used smaller bolts.

And yeah, another 80s song playing for your listening pleasure LOL
