PROBLEM: Installing Seibon OEM CF Front Lip

Heyy guys!! For those that have installed the Seibon CF OEM aero front lip, can you guys tell me if you kept the factory front lip on the car? I tried to put the lip on the car originally with the factory little under bumper lip but it was soo tight when it came time to hook the other end of the lip around the corner of the bumper. I didnt want to force it and crack the end of the lip so i stopped and took off the factory lip and the seibon lip slipped on the bumper sooooo easy. But the problem now is that there is a 3" gap under the bumper between the lip and the factory plastic undertray. I DD my evo x and it would suck to get snow/salt in my undertray in PA weather..
The factory Aero front lip comes with a plastic hanger to put in place where the factory lip use to be to connect the lip to the undertray. I tried to get just the hanger from the stealership but its not possible to get just the hanger =(
Aero Front Lip Hanger:

Here's the pics:

i had it before...what i did was just zip tie the open holes together, and left it as is. it held up, but then i only had it for a short time.

yes you're supposed to take the oem one off.

it doesnt make sense to just leave that gap there.. The bottom center of the seibon front lip has a thing to attach the lip onto the undertray to hold it kinda together but it serves no purpose because the bottom of the undertray is still exposed.. AHHH im pretty disappointed at SEIBON!!! I guess nothing beats OEM POS SH**

actually, looking at it again, you mounted it wrong. the fiberglass bracket go on the bottom. you're supposed to cut up the undertray a bit to allow the bracket to slide through. when that's done, the tray will sit much closer. look at russellm's oem front aero lip install pictures to get an idea of what you need to cut for the undertray.

im still confused where do i cut the undertray? it doesnt block anything. Its short. There are three little fiberglass brackets that are attached to the lip. I attached the brackets from the lip to the undertray with no problems. In between each bracket theres a gap. maybe i should take another picture.. ughh its so frustrating thanks for the help endGameXIII but are you saying i can somehow extend the undertray so it meets with the lip? SOOOOO CONFUSED. i think i just got a crappy fitment lip and i just have to modify the lip someway to make it work with the factory lip

here is what you can do. get some cardboard or thick construction paper and trace out a ful size template of the shape needed.( go under the car with the paper and tape it into place and then trace out the shape) . cut the shape out and duble check that it looks right, include al holes needed to mount. then take your template to a plastics supply shop and get them to cut you a piece of 1/8th thick black ABS plastic to the shape of your template. then just fasten it into place with screws or clips.

keep the template incase anyone else on here needs the same part made up. i just did this on my evo 9 and the abs has a good factory textured look to it.

hope this helps.

well...here's an easy way for you to understand what you're doing wrong.

mount the fiberglass bracket UNDER the tray, not ABOVE like you have in the picture. meaning the bracket is supposed to show, not hidden, when you look under the car. you'll find that the plastic undertray has a slight extension on the edge that prevents it from sitting flush. you were supposed to cut the part that blocks the bracket from sitting properly.

The only way that I found that the lip will fit without "modification" is to leave the stock plastic lip on the car.

The Siebon lip will fit over the stock set up, but it's a tight squeeze.

I tried the same exact thing as you did by taking the OEM plastic lip off and had the same gap.

I don't think that Siebon designed the lip to require the OEM plastic lip to come off and have such an obvious gap.

If you use the OEM lip, you will find that everything lines up in terms of the attachment points (although the Siebon lip will bulge down slightly in the front of the lip at that particular attachment point.)

Bottom line, the fitment is a PIA, you will likely have some small cracks in the CF when you put it on and you will have to shave down some areas around the curved areas of the front bumper to get it to fit flush.

and just to clarify for you, you're supposed to take off the oem lip. since this is a replica of the original aero lip, and the aero kit requires you take off the original lip, it's only sensible you have to do the same here.

seibon stuff is a hit or miss at times, sure, but at least it's better than, say, ViS. their stuff truly sucks.
