HOW TO: turn off non-HID X DRLs (this works :))

Courtesy of 07outty on this board

This method will turn off the DRLs for all factory non-HID Evo Xs by taking out the headlight relay in the main fuse box in the engine bay and relaying the parking lights' power to power the headlights.

When this is done your headlights will turn on when you turn on the parking lights (second click on the knob)

Materials(you can get all of these at any regular auto stores)
1) a roll of 12 gauge wire
2) some 18 gauge wire
3) 2x male and 4x female crimp on spade connectors

4) 1x any 12v four prongs relay

5) 1x 30A fuse
6) 1x fuse holder

7) 1x quick splice wire tap

8 1x ground ring terminal

Method
1) go to engine bay and go to main fuse box and take out the relay with fins on the back (that's the headlight relay) - there will be two holes (facing the front of the car they are vertical to you) you'll be plugging into to power the headlights

2) take some 12 gauge wire and cut out two sections of them:
a) 1st one connects one of the prongs on the 12v relay to where the stock finned headlight relay goes in (crimp on [with a needle nose plier] a female spade connector on one end of the 12 gauge wire to clip onto one of the prongs on the 12v relay, then put a male spade connector on the other end of the 12 gauge wire to insert into the factory headlight relay hole [relax dirty minds])
b) 2nd one goes to a chassis ground - i used the one between the airbox and fusebox (once again crimp on a female spade connector on one end of the 12 gauge wire to clip onto one of the prongs on the 12v relay, then crimp on the ground ring terminal to the other end of the 12 gauge wire and bolt it down on the chassis ground)

3) get the fuse holder, put the 30A fuse inside it, and put a female spade connector on one end of the wire coming out of the fuse holder to clip it onto a prong on the 12v relay, then put a male spade connector on the other wire coming out of the fuse holder to clip into the other hole where the headlight relay went in

4) get some 18 gauge wire, find the parking light wires behind the driver side corner light - there are two wires going into the corner light - blue and black, blue is the hot wire and black is the ground.
a) use the quick splice wire tap and tap the 18 gauge wire with the blue wire going into the parking light - this will let you draw power from the parking light to power the headlight.
b) put a female spade connector on the other end of the 18 gauge wire to clip onto the last prong on the 12v relay.

now what you have is:
1st prong goes to headlight relay spot
2nd prong goes to ground
3rd prong goes through a fuse to headlight relay spot
4th prong taps into the parking light hotwire

so the 4th prong draws power from the parking light and through the 12v relay powers the headlights by plugging wires into the headlight relay spot

here is what the finished fuse box looks like:

with some explanations:

feel free to ask questions or add to/correct my write-up, thanks.

Awesome write-up!

Thanks for the translation in English

You are officially my favorite chicken

Btw, does this work for base GSR with SSS projector headlights? Does it send enough power to fire up the HID?

Nice write up dude. Me and my friend fallowed this write up but we got power right from the battery and there is a puple wire that goes into the fuse box inside the car so we tapped into that instead of the blue wire that you tapped into and everything works great. I have parking lights, low beams, high beams, and fogs working accordingly...

ok, so let me get this straight... I have a gsr without sss and an after market hid kit, If I do this... your saying that when I turn on my car with my headlights off and start driving, my headlights will Not flicker?

Will I have no lights on whatsoever if I drive with my lights in the off switch in the day or will my after market hid kit shine dim like day time running lights?

I have a gsr with out the sss. I got factory hid headlights and they flickered and went out because of drls. So by fallowing those instructions you will loose parking lights (first click) which will activate low beams. You will not have drls any longer.

Well they didn't really bother me but since I got the factory hid's mine flickered and went out due to tue having drls (not enough power) so thats why I had to do this. If you have an sss package the wiring is different. Thats all.
