Refinishing Titanium Exhaust Tips

Hi Everyone,

The blue-purple burnt titanium exhaust tip has become quite popular lately. But people either love or hate the look. This post is for both groups. You can actually refinish titanium tips to remove the burn and make them silver. And from there, you can also re-burn the titanium to the color and depth you want.

So here we start with a T1R 76S cat-back that a customer requested to have the titanium burn removed. We used Autosol metal polish.

You can use blue shop towels, a terry cloth, or microfiber, anything that's not too abrasive to polish the tip.

Here is the tip half way through polishing.

Here is the tip all done. We used brake cleaner on a terry cloth to remove any remaining polish and then a microfiber towel to clean it up. You can see the other titanium tip in comparison.

And here is the finished result with both tips now being silver.

One tip takes about 30 minutes to polish to silver.

Now, if you wanted to redo the titanium burn, you would use a blowtorch and just heat up the titanium tips until you get the desired color. This will work for any true titanium tip.

Yes you can. You just use a blowtorch to burn the titanium until you reach the color you want. You just have to be careful with the titanium as it will obviously be extremely hot. If you screw up the burn, you'll have to repolish and try again.

oh yeah
we were driving home on the NJ. turn pike after an Evo BBQ. And other Evo drivers told me, Me and some other Evos are really made some drivers slow down. They say some cant believe the flames came out the exhausts.
One minivan almost stoped.
They were watching the driver faces. I think that was about 10 or 12 evo.

LOL
That's awesome. The joys of turbo Works wonders on tailgaters when you launch a flame at them. LOL
