Thanks for the tips guys. I shall try again this weekend- to be honest I was too scared to pry open the black clips off the heatshield because they bend alot but wouldn't come out.. was worried it would snap.

Not sure how relevant this is but I'm an Aussie with a white Evo X.

Another really good tip! In my Civic when I was prying things I dropped a screw down there and never got it back... ever
