I ordered a tubular manifold, just wondering what are some options as far as heatshields for that go... not for the for wall, but for the manifold its self.
I am asking cause i dont know... could you have the manifold ceramic coated in lew of heat sheild? or will it still get too hot?
you can always have it coated. but I dont think that is *nearly* enough. think about it- the coating is only a mere hundredths of an inch thick. theres no way a material can have that high of an R (insulation) value high enough to do anything.
I prefer to wrap and seal my mani. and a head shieald over the mani + a fire wall heatshiels are always [necessary] added bonuses

These guys claims and up to a 33% reduction in surface temps. and up to 50c reduction in under the hood temps.
I looked at other coatings on the internet and most were claiming 20%-30% reduction in surface temp. I did see some wild claims of 70% reduction in heat, which i am skeptical to believe.
I can't find any good credible test results for heat shielding, ceramic coating and exhaust wrap. If anyone can find a good test results please post it up.
30% reduction in surface temp is pretty good. I do think the more heat protection the better. The important factor is to reduce the radiation temperature to the other components in the engine. A ceramic coating will reduce the temperature of the manifold but a heat shield will reduce the temperature of the other components by shielding off heat radiation.

Ok, I know something of this. We use the Full-Race tubular exhaust manifold and it gets hot. Very hot. Beautifully made, it flows better and we make more power at higher rpm but it does generate some heat.
I had wrapped the manifold prior to install. I know people like to coat them which can certainly help too but I wrapped. The manifold, under race condition, burned the wrap off over a season. Really, so that it was hanging in pieces that I would peel off (with gloves when cool).
We are now using two solutions:
- wrap your cam sensor and boost sensor and lines with reflective heat tape.
- use MAP's Heat shield for tubular manifolds.
The MAP shield bolts up easily, is very nicely made and the price is reasonable ($185). You can find them here www.maperformance.com.

It's around $300, which doesn't seem too bad for a titanium heatshield.
Boy, that is great looking and I love that it is titanium. Interestingly, it fits over the manifold and against the motor as opposed to against the firewall, which I like, though I wonder if it is deep enough for tubular manifolds and larger turbos. It would be a shame to get it home and not be able to shape it a bit if needed, as titanium is not so flexible.
