I just bought a 2011 GSR for 4,000 off the MSRP. It's built in MAY 2011, quite a long time from now. And it's in the showroom with 16miles on it. What I am worried about now is that I heard that some dealer may unplug the ODD or rewrite the ODD while the car being on a test drive.
Any ideas?

Maybe the dealership just hasn't been able to sell it. Locally I've seen a 2011 GSR next to a 2012 GSR both overpriced at about $41000. I know it's different circumstances here but it may just be as simple as that.

If a dealer is crazy enough to commit fraud by falsifying mileage, then that's probably the least of your problems when it comes to doing business with them. Research the dealer's reputation. Stop worrying about this specific issue. If you're comfortable with the dealer and it's a decent price, then buy the car. If not, then more on. But the odometer reading should not be the issue.

i can almost promise you they arent going through the effort of unplugging the gauge cluster for test drives, people would notice, and they would be in deep trouble very quickly. definately the risk/reward issue does not add up.

No. Way too much trouble, if even possible, for a legitimate manufacturers dealer to do this. And, as another poster indicated, the risk of fraud and to their reputation over, what, a profit of a few thousand on one car, would never be worth it. You can have lots of fear, but not this one.

dealers don't unplug the odometer for a test drive. Not only is that unethical, that is illegal. What you see is what you've got. They probably just had a hard time selling it, happens all the time at dealerships.

Well I would counter that just because it is illegal doesn't mean dealerships would never do it or risk it. Car dealerships aren't exactly the bastion of ethical business practices in the country. There's plenty of examples of dealerships which knowingly sell lemons, hiding salvage titles on cars, breaking signed contracts, etc.

That said, 16 miles it not at all unusual for an Evo sitting on the lot for a while. When I was shopping for SEs in January 2011, I noticed several which had 4 or 5 miles yet were on the lot for months. Dealers can be very picky about Evo test drives so I wouldn't worry about it.

I got more than 5k off the MSRP (along with 0% financing for 36 months and just $2k down) for my 2011 MR with <40 miles on it. Remember you have a warranty!
