2010 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution MR Touring

Mitsubishi finally posted pricing information on its new top-of-the-Evolution-ary-chart MR Touring model, and it definitely isn't cheap. A bargain to some maybe, but definitely not cheap. We had first seen this uplevel MR at a local car gathering that seems to attract just about every bit of new enthusiast candy, but back then, they were referring to it as the Limited. Now, it's called the MR Touring and with a base MSRP of $40,990, the top dog Lancer finally cracks the 40K barrier, pushing the definition of "bargain." If you go Sharpie-mad and check every box on the order form, the bottom line might make you think you're actually at an Audi dealer. The full boat 2010 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution MR Touring wouldl retail for – wait for it – $52,728. Yep, a fifty-plus-thousand-dollar-Lancer. (Editor's note: After checking over the list again, we see that some of the options are indeed redundant. Best we can tell, a Touring would run around $47,000, tops. Still quite a hefty sum though.)

For all those greenbacks, however, you'll get a wonderfully chuckable, mostly-aluminum supersedan with a 291-horsepower turbo four-cylinder, a paddle-shifted dual clutch six-speed transmission, Brembo brakes, 18-inch BBS wheels wrapped in sticky Yokohama Advans, all working through Mitsubishi's Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) all-wheel-drive system to propel you along in any conditions on virtually any surface at alarming speeds. But all of that could be said for the regular Evo as well. So what makes the Touring so dear?

What the Touring adds are creature comforts that make the 40-grand price tag potentially less alarming, turning the car into something that can genuinely be cross-shopped against BMW, Audi, Mercedes and the like with few excuses. It's an Evo for grown-ups.

Standard on the Touring are things like a new higher-res info display between the gauges, an Evo-first moonroof, and genuine leather-covered heated Recaros. The car gains a few pounds with the extra equipment and additional soundproofing – even though it saves a bit by dropping the rear wing in favor of a small lip spoiler. At $40,000-$50,000 Mitsubishi is entering highly competitive waters, but we think they will find plenty of buyers. After all, the Evo has never been afraid of a little competition.

i dont think the RS would do good here..someone in another thread did calculations and it ran close to 30k..making it kinda pointless to get one when u have the RA for 4k less and the GSR for 2k more


but i think the mr touring should have the tall wing..i like the sunroof addition.

No, the same thing happened last year. You can't get all the options at once. You cant get the $2k nav system PLUS the 6 disc changer, and the back-up camera and the $2.5k nav system+ install kit all at once to add to 50k. Most of the 'options' are standard on the MR tourning. If you add all the options that are not already standard, you're still well under 45k.

even at over $40k it's ridiculous, let alone closing in on the $50k mark. i remember when the evo was still just under 30k with some options included. the hell happen to that?

As I mentioned elsewhere, I can't believe what's happening with this car... Fellas, I think we've seen the end of the Evo as its known. A tuner icon, a winning platform in rally racing, and the affordable race car.... has sold out. How it reaches nearly $50k is beyond me. I mean, if you slap even a $35-$40k price tag on something, the interior better be spot on. That means materials are of great and sturdy quality, no sqeaking, and no rattling. How do you take race seats, and turn them into something completely opposite of what they're meant to be? Lightweight, indestructable seats. Putting airbags in them, and heaters in the seats? C'mon! I bet that MR Touring is wasting all the R&D put into this car, in terms of handling, because last I heard, sticking a moonroof in an already top heavy car doesn't improve the center of gravity, therefore, hindering the awesome handling characteristics of the X.

But when all is said and done, Mitsu is aiming this car at, let's face it, the old guys. So, whatever. I just hope they keep the base models below the $30k line, and let us REAL enthusiasts enjoy whatever dignity is left in the Evolution name.

You guys act like they cut the GSR and the regular MR. Both of those models are still available. This is the luxury MR. Big difference.

The X is still a great car, the same as last year. Nothing has changed. They've just added another model is all. And the MR Touring is over 45k with Aero, Nav, and Interior.

Inflation of the US Dollar. Costs to build ship and market all have risen also which reflects in the price tag. Look at the msrp of a ford focus or a mazda 3 18-20k less than 5 years ago these models (or their counterparts) msrp was around 10-12k

i know, but see here's the funny thing - inflation raises cost of sales, but buyer salary doesn't go up with it. so things we could afford before suddenly seems further away.

I picked one up last week for $42K with navigation and am in the process of getting some aftermarket parts. I can understand why some Evo owners aren't crazy about the "Touring" direction the Mistsubishi has decided to offer, but coming from the Nissan GT-R and bunch of German cars, I'm glad that Mitsubishi made an Evo with just enough luxury to keep me happy, at a price point I consider a bargain.

The GSR and regular MR are available for those who want to spend more time on the track than the street, but for me the MR Touring is a great platform for building an incredible street car that is also more than capable for the occasional track day. I'm used to more power so I'll be going in for a dyno tune pretty soon, but I really have no complaints about the MR Touring thus far.
