The TL would be a no-brainer to get if you are just looking for a luxurious car w/ decent all around performance. The Evo is a totally different animal... it's a rally-bred streetcar that is meant for class-leading grip/handling, and power (it does need a tune to wake the car up) with tunability/modibility in mind. You have to determine what you are looking for in a car before you decide what to get.

Plus, the Evo's looks is very distinctive (ie. mean as hell) and not a common sight.

AND go test drive each car in your list before making assumptions... I always remind people that! web reviews and word of mouth and numbers on papers tell only half the story

I've been wanting a rally car. Don't really care for the STI. But with Mitsu, the slightest mod and it voids your warranty. Plus I've been reading about the shoddy workmanship, paint, etc with the Evo and Mitsu in general.

If I want to go racing I'll take the cobra out. It's being reloaded next spring anyway to have a full upgraded suspension, 5.3 liter aluminum block at 8000 rpm, twin 57 turbos, 3400 lbs curb weight. It should net around 850 rwhp on pump gas. A shot of juice will get it to 1000 rwhp.

I don't know anymore. I was all hot on the Evo before all of this. Mitsubishi is just raising the price pretty high. I have the money, that is not the problem. The problem is that I don't think it's worth what they are asking. Though to know for sure, I'll need to drive both.

^ From what I heard, any car manufacturer will VOID your warranty if you mod the powertrain... Mitsu is no exception. But a lot of owners here have modded their Evos and were still able to get warranty work done. It just depends which dealer you go to... and how well you are at BSng them. Also, there are "mod-friendly" dealers out there like South Coast and Anaheim Mitsu (they partnered up with mod shops)

It's ture that a lot of dealers will void the warranty if you start messing with the powertrain. But I should at least be able to change the intake and exhaust without voiding it. I'm in Denver and I'll have to do some research to see if there are any dealers that are mod friendly.

ARRRGHHH people.

Listen, the cost is the SAME as last year (with $600 across the board increase, blame the economy) :
MSRP of GSR ~34K (with desitnation)
MSRP of MR (base) ~39K (with destination)

Now this year, buuyers have THE OPTION of buying MR touring
MSRP of MR Touring ~41K

NOTHING HAS CHANGED from last year; just the additon of an option package.

***
As for the rumor of "50K" EVO, they added up every single option, including the ones that cancel each other out.

EXAMPLE:
Package:Navigation and 40 GB music server: 2K

On the option list there is the navigation system with install kit (ie order from dealership, wasn't installed at the port) for $2,400.
-and- an option for a six disc changer, (for models with no navi) for $600, yet this option is canceled out and impossible to order if you have navi.

Yet you wouldn't order the 2,400 nav and install kit AND check the navigation package, the same way you couldn't order the six disc changer as it would be removed to install the navi.

Yet the press simply added up all of the option packages and options and arrived at? 50K evo.

Nissan's new Maxima also has packages available, and an option list, many of which cancel each other out. SO the same arguement could be made that there are 47K Maximas if a 'journalist' simply adds up all avilable packages and options without realizing that many cancel each other out. Besides, if someone wants the MR touring at MSRP of 41K (or in reality, argees to a better price,) then go for it. If someone wants to drop 3k in options: it s their perogative.

But to say the new EVO is 50 K is just deceitful, The GSR, MR, and MR touring all have their own pricing.

***

When in reality, the MR Touring presents you with the same EVO as all trims, but with the SST transmission, leather seats (including heated RECAROS,) power moonroof, Bilstein shocks, eibach springs, everything else from the MR base for 41K.

No car is touching the out of the box performance for that price, or even offers such a combination of so many tuning parts AND luxury from the factory.
***

IF you want an EVO, then buy one. Simply choose the one you want/can afford.

Sorry, I couldn't stand to read the madness anymore. End rant. Go Mitsubishi!

You can always ask the dealer before you buy your Evo if they will let you mod the car without voiding the warranty, and to what extent. Just be "nice" when asking about it. Then have them put that into writing before you close the deal. I'm sure there is someone that will accomodate this... it is, after all, still a buyer's market.

Supra's weren't hard to get, they just didn't sell so dealer didn't carry them. Toyota Dealers were getting burnt on the earlier MKIV's with leftovers. Supra's were expensive the first 4 years they were a good $10K more than a Corvette. The early base price would be well into the 60K's in today dollar.

People didn't know about the performance potential so it was pretty hard to convince someone to pay 10K more for Supra that ran the same times as Corvette.
