I don't think this is anything to worried about! If you don't like the touring package don't buy it, they've said nothing about discontinuing the GSR or MR. I guess no one grows up anymore, I for one know there's gotta be some EVO 8 and 9 guys who appreciate the direction which Mitsubishi's taken with the X! We're not getting any younger here guys and Mitsubishi knows their selling EVO's to a certain niche that are more than likely returning EVO owners/enthusiasts who were in their early 20's and are looking for the same performance with a more adult approach. I'm now 26 and have a child of one, I feel the X delivers in every direction, sure the quality of the paint and plastics could be improved but I'm rather happy with the cars overall performance!

Yeah...I see your point..exotic materials and construction would cost a lot- but it is hard to come off of money for no luxury image or pimptastic status points like you get with certain euro cars or nicer vettes etc. The problem you run into is when you price a car too high for your customer base...like the RX-7 which was pretty light or the Lotus Elise which is a go kart that costs way too much for me to afford new.

would you pay $10k more for an STI or Evo that weighed 500 lbs less?

The GSR and regular MR are available for those who want to spend more time on the track than the street, but for me the MR Touring is a great platform for building an incredible street car that is also more than capable for the occasional track day. I'm used to more power so I'll be going in for a dyno tune pretty soon, but I really have no complaints about the MR Touring thus far.

The X is still a great car, the same as last year. Nothing has changed.
All the same reasons why I have a deposit on one.

If you don't like it, buy a GSR or MR. If you want an MR with the same specs, SST and 4b11 engine, AND some nice features, (All leather, RECAROS included with heated seats, power moonroof, etc.) why not pay 2K more if you want them?

THE EVO IS STILL AN EVO; just with options.

Drives: cheetahs crazy with his Evo X MR

Before I bought my X, I resisted buying one because they didn't have a sunroof. Then I found out about the MR Touring. Decided, ok I'm going to do it. And sold my VIII with the intention to get a MR Touring. Long story short, i ended up getting an 08 because I got a really good deal on a fully loaded GG one. Looking back, I'm very happy I didn't get the MR Touring because I intend to track the car, and wouldn't want the sunroof adding weight to the top. All in all, if you aren't going to track your car, I think the MR Touring is great.

I don't think Mitsu is really trying to make a bunch of money selling their cars here in the U.S.

We're more of a tax write off for Mitsubishi Heavy Industries in Japan.

Who cares about how many cylinders a car has. Trying typing that into a Lotus Elise/Exige forum.

I don't know about that... when buying an Evo-X, you are also paying for the rest of the technology and quality of the performance components the car packs:
- S-AWC all-wheel drive system which seems to rival the GT-R's AWD handling performance (as claimed by someone here on the forum who "traded" his GTR for an X)
- front+back lsds
- top-notch turbo, forged crank, forged connecting rods, etc.
- Brembo brakes
- Recaro Seats (full leather for MR)
- TC-SST transmission which I read somewhere costs $6,000 alone (MR)
- forged BBS Wheels (MR)
- Eibach/Bilstein suspension (MR)
- lots of aluminum components/body panels

The 4B11T has also proven to be a very well-built engine... Ryan Gate's time-attack X is pushing 600whp on the stock block, and has over 8K miles on the track.

Plus the Evo has a lot of headroom when it comes to tunability... spending $1K (tune, catback, panel filter), you could easily push 300whp which would roughly equate to 360+ HP (crank).

IMO, the MR touring package is certainly worth the $40K pricetag, which includes other standard luxury features.

how is that?

Audi's A4 Prestige 6-Speed Triptronic & Quattro fully loaded: $ 52,385

Why is it that everyone thinks an Evo is overpriced? cause it's a Mitsubishi? well... yeah maybe

That seems awefully expensive for an Evo. They are nice cars don't get me wrong, but at 50k it's going to be hard for the younger generation to afford these, unless of course you have rich parents lol

^ why? Are rich teenagers and the younger crowd the only ones interested in the Evo? I'm in my mid 30s and there is no other sedan at this price-point I would rather buy. I'm sure there are plenty of members here who are in the 30s or 40s also (even a few in the 50s?).

And the MR touring starts at $40K, not 50 And I never pay MSRP or anything near that... Mitsu dealers I've dealt (or tried before) tend to give much better deals/discounts than say Audi or BMW dealers (not including factory incentives).

The higher price has got me re-thinking about getting a MR. The Acrua TL AWD has more HP (though it is heavier) and is very luxurious. It's 42K fully loaded. I don't know if the Evo is worth it anymore.

.... Trust me the evo is worth it. The evo will toast that acura on a road course or twisty road. The handling is unparalleled. Not only that, but a $350 tune will net you another 80-100 hp.
