They might be able to void your warranty if they want (thats debatable) but im pretty sure they have to do these recalls no matter what. They cant send people away with a car that might explode into flames because they found an aftermarket part on the car.

The Magnusen-Moss Warranty Act helps out quite a bit. The GT-R guys signed paperwork (whether reading it or not) at the time of purchase regarding warranty and launching, holding them accountable for transmission damage if there's evidence the car was abused by disabling some of the traction controls and launching.

There was no paperwork (that I know of) referring to warranty at the time of purchase on the Evo. The whole rule/law boils down to when/if an issue comes up. They have every right to take down your VIN# and annotate that you had aftermarket *whatever* installed, and if you come in 6 months later with a problem, yet everything on the car appears stock, they can void your warranty in that area by claiming when you had that aftermarket *whatever,* it was the cause of the issue you're coming in for. They then have the responsibility of proving that you caused it with the aftermarket part(s), and while they're trying to find the proof in the pudding, they're not really concerned with getting the warranty work done at no charge to you.

Also, if you had removed anything and replaced, you would've noticed a ton of discreet tamper seal. It's the pinkish paint they use on OEM hose clamps and piping to determine if stock pieces came off the car. The dots on hard piping has to line up to the marking on the hose, the hose clamps shouldn't show signs of being loosened, etc...

However, most dealership try to get you to sign an arbitration clause, which means that if you want to fight them, you can not do so in court. Instead, you have to let the dealer hire what's essentially a paid jury to decide the outcome of the 'case'. By paid, obviously we mean paid BY the dealership, thus working for them.

I was given a pretty hard time about refusing to sign it, but now I'm not given a hard time about my warranty

Say you purchase a car from Dealer X. You sign the arbitration clause that Dealer X hands you and go about your business.

Now let's say it's time to get something warrantied and you're 2,000 miles from Dealer X, so you take your car to Dealer Y. Is this the same as not signing an arbitration clause whatsoever like in your case?

At least they acknowledge these problems and doing something about it. BMW has problems with the recent inline-6 engines that have the magnesium components... makes all kinds of random weird noises like an old diesel engine (including ticking valves), and they don't even acknowledge that when a ton of people are already complaining about it.

Or the twin clutch tranny in the M3 mysteriously engaging and disengaging itself, leaving you powerless in the middle of a merge.

I guess some Mitsu owners like to complain a lot I've had more problems w/ other brands before.

As a mitsubishi warranty specialist, our engineering team has informed me that your HID fog lights are definitely the cause of the fuel leak and subsequent engine bay fire that burned down your vehicle.
