gas pedal broke clean in half just a heads up think it could be a little dangerous

was no big deal i was only 1 mile from home on a old back road when next thing i know my pedal was in the floor broken in half very clean break right on a seam. when it dawned on me this thing is plastic and not only that it is not even solid. my next though was what if my wife had been driving and my kids in the back seat and she was in town or something. so my biggest reason for this tread is just to inform u and to tell u i think it could be prevented if there is no fix yet in place. i think if u put a stopper so at the bottom of your pedal travel it has something to rest on i don't think it would have broke. mine does not. i did find a thread with pics of the break it is just ware mine broke and if you will take 10 min to pop off the wire and the 3 or 4 nuts holding the pedal assembly in place and look 3/4 the way up the pedal u will see a very thin place in the edge of the plastic u will realize this ain't a fluke. u will see maybe not today or tomorrow but one day this thing will give up the ghost if any one knows of a company that has a fix or is working on a fix please let me know. other than that man i love my car most fun i have ever had with any thing i have ever owned love this site to i have learned much i don't make very many threads but like i said i think it could be a safety issue that u can prevent easily now that u know there could be a issue oh here is the other thread with the pics but u should remove it and look for your self will give u a whole new out look on it lol

I Cant believe there is not a recall for this yet. Someone have to die while trying to pull out into traffic before the cost analysis adds up?

how is that scary? there's no way a case like that would hold up in court because honestly, what's the danger of the gas pedal breaking? if it breaks, the car slows down. wow, so dangerous. the only thing that would be dangerous is if the brake pedal broke, or even if the clutch pedal broke in gear. the gas pedal breaking is annoying sure, but not dangerous.

I'm not worried about my gas pedal. Only two people have actually reported this problem.

You're waiting to turn into a street, you start turning your gas pedal breaks... An SUV that you went before is heading directly in your side...

Not dangerous at all. As long as the brake is working.

Can you say assclown??? How is the gas pedal breaking not scary? Maybe in the OP the situation was not scary but what happens if you pull out into traffic to make a u-turn and the pedal breaks with on-coming traffic coming, or you pull out to make a turn, you have plenty of time but traffic is coming and the pedal breaks? I stop at my friendly neighborhood coffee shop every day of the week and when I come out of the plaza I always have to pull out with on coming traffic to merge in. Not scary is an understatement.

I think more than 2 people..... but 2 people is enough, show me previous evos with broken gas pedal. This should be a recall, peroid. how about if broken pedal goes under your brakes.? o.O

Something should be done on this. Definitely scary. It'll only get worse as these things age and the repeated stress gets to them.

Not scary...

I'd ALMOST assume that you put a TON of pressure on your pedal under WOT, which will cause a lot of stress on a pedal... Maybe not all the time, but enough to break a pedal

Your wife driving it? Probably not putting 50-100lbs of pressure on the pedal at WOT frequently.

And DON'T try to claim that you RARELY go WOT...

Now it would make sense for Mitsubishi to put a strong pedal in a car every owner will put through the paces.
