Thoughts on a chance of a six speed in 2011
So,
Looking at getting a evo x gsr. While the 5-speed is not a deal breaker, I do travel a lot at highway speeds, so a 6th gear would be nice.
I know it is all speculation, but does anyone have any thoughts on whether a 6-speed could happen in 2011? I could force myself to wait if there were one coming...
Thanks.

i feel like we would already have heard some information if there was going to be a refresh for 2011, i think there will be a 6spd manual in the future but prob not till 2012 or so
i would love to have a 6spd stick evo with all the ammenities of the new 2010 MR touring edition, that would be the ultimate car

I don't know the chance of this, but maybe someone can answer this question: what RPM does the Evo X MR stay at on the highway? The GSR is very close to 4k in 5th gear at 80ish. What's the MR like?

the X would be almost a perfect car if it had a 6spd manual tranny...

If it's as strong or even stronger than the current transmission, I would get one for sure. I could care less about the notchiness as long as it is not causing any damage.

The short 5th gear isn't that bad, and really, it's not noisy for me at all... at least if I stay under 80mph. This is "sort" of a benefit since it discourages me to go over the "unofficial" freeway speed limit... since a red car w/ a big wing is so easy to spot by highway cops. Though, all I would really like to have is the added MPG of a 6th gear or a taller 5th... but Hiboost posted a cruise-timing ECU mod that might benefit gas mileage a little bit, so I'm going to try that out very soon.

I honestly would doubt it... the only reason why I say that is because the SST must be a very expensive mission on a low production model, meaning a lot of investment....... Mits will want to string out that tooling.....
just my $.02

I don't see the need for a 6mt, maybe some of you guys would feel more at home in a BMW??

When you drive 50 km a day at highway speeds, there is a very real 'need' for a six speed. In terms of both exhaust drone and gas mileage.
And forget bmw, name one performance oriented car this side of a toyota corolla xrs that does not have a six speed. the evo x and mustang gt are all I can think of.

Evos could really benefit from having a nice bullet-proof 6-speed manual option... the STI has one. Maybe make that available as an SE model? Even if there were room to fit a nice tall 6th gear there just for highway cruising that would be nice. HW milage on my 6 speed IX MR is pretty good!

i think if they did a taller 5th gear people wouldn't complain or even want a 6spd.
but the benefit of a short 5th gear is that it makes good power even as a OD gear.
frankly i'm neutral; either has its benefit and shortcoming, so you gain some you lose some either way.
