So I went from E46 M3 to Evo X now going to 335
I had a 2006 M3 w/Competition Package before I bought my 08 Evo X. I made the switch because I got a new job that made my commute longer ( 70 miles each way) and I would occasionally need a back seat to drive people around. I thought the Evo X would be a good compromise between the M3 and my goal of the ultimate daily driver.
Well, after owning the car for 8 months and putting 17k miles on the car, I have finally decide to trade the Evo in for a BMW 335. My biggest gripes about the Evo were no 6th gear for highway cruising (which is 95% of what I do) and a extremely small gas tank. If Mitsubishi would have put a 6th gear (with a reasonable overdrive) and a 15-18 gallon gas tank, it might be a damn perfect car.
Its a great car and I will certainly miss it.

Good luck. This is the part where most people on this forum would try to convince you to keep the Evo, but I don't think you should.
You really did pick the wrong car for long highway commutes. Im guessing the only fun parts on the commute were the highway entrance and exit ramps.
I came from an E46 M3 too, and have driven numerous 335s. The 335 is a much better cruising car. The X's real strength is its handling. If you aren't going to make use of it, its not worth keeping.

335 is a good car, but I found it slightly dull to drive, bit too soft. Few mods will make it nice though

I agree, the X is an awesome handling car. When I tell people I prefer the handling of the X over my E46 M3, some people look at me like I have 4 heads, but its true.
If I ever get the time/cash to get into road course racing, I would definitely put the Evo high on my list.

Agreed, the 335 is definitely a bit softer and doesn't engage the driver as much. I'm going to miss feeling like a race car driver.

i would have bought a 335xi if i could have found a reasonably priced used one. i think in months of searching i only came across a couple 335xi with 6spd manuals in the northeast. my budget was about 33k so i picked up a brand new Evo X instead of a used 335xi which would have been 35k+ with used car 5-9% financing

My original budget was around the same as yours, which is why I didn't even consider the 335 to begin with.
