Question Scratches on windows?

Anyone have scratches on their windows like the ones below. The scratches are
on every piece of glass. Car has only 8k miles.

Long story short I got my car back from a body shop like this, and they are trying
to say that the scratches are inside the glass so it is a factory defect. My
insurance guy tried having it buffed out and the scracthes are still there, so he is
now saying the same thing. And of course the Mitsubishi rep is saying that it is
not possible to have the same type of scratches on every piece of glass, since
the front windshield is different from the sides and rear. When the sun hits the
window just right it looks like a damn spider web of scratches. Anyone have any
ideas?

I'm also havaing the same scratches over the 2 front windows. but mines are vertical scratches. I think it should be the dust inside the door,,

I had the car for 10 days before it went to the bodyshop. No ice scraper, no car
wash.

So...the bodyshop used a liquid mask to cover my car. When I got my car back,
the entire body felt real gritty, as if the liquid mask didn't come off. So, they
polished my car. My thought is that they used an orbital buffer to take the liquid
mask off of my windows. But I have no way of proving it.

Is there anyway to prove that the scratches are physically on the surface? I have
tried using a magnifying glass, numerous types of ink. If I can prove that the
scratches are on the surface my insurance company will cover it.

Were you getting the car re-sprayed? It was probably the shop as I got the same thing when I got my old DelSol re-sprayed. They tape up paper to cover the windows. Sometimes any grit caught between the paper and window will scratch the glass especially when they are polishing with the guy leaning on the car to do the roof. The guy that did my car knocked off $250 so I called it a day.

Something else to keep in mind are automated NON touchless car washes. The kind that have the spinning heads with felt/cloth pads that do the washing. These things collect all kinds of garbage from other cars that have been washed and then scratch your paint. You may not have run it through a car wash of this type, however, most body shops and dealers have these. Mine does, and I know for a fact it scratches paint/windows and we run 90% of the VW/Audi's through our washer. My subaru has the same kind of window scratches and it was from our car wash.

I don't see the old style non-touchless washes around much anymore but they are definitely known for scratching windows and paint. Are they still prevalent in the US?

If you read the lancer forums (non evo lancers) you will see a lot of guys with scratched tinted windows. They install something to avoid the scratches inside the doors.
Personally I got a couple of large scratches but I found out who did it
My girlfriend diamonds
Incredible but true, keep our ladies hands and wrists away of the windows if they wear diamonds. Diamonds cut the tints like butter.

I have similar scratches on one of my windows. The dealer took it through their brush washer. They did not tell me. Of course that is where the scratch occurred but of course the dealer would not fess up. They probably run cars and get bugs, stones, rust, whatever stuck in those brushes. Luckily my car is used and my DD so I am not that worried about it as I am sure more carnage will occur, but that sucks to have it that bad.

So...the bodyshop is going to cover my deductible and the insurance co. is taking the bill. The glass company is giving me OEM glass. Would it be better to get aftermarket??

I don't think it's a factory defect, but who knows honestly??? At least it's being covered, good luck!

I don't know about Mitsubishi glass, but for all other cars, I would take OEM glass over aftermarket. Also, isn't it a bad idea to go through your insurance when the body shop is going to cover it anyway? I mean, yes, you don't pay for the deductible, but it is still a claim. Try getting the body shop to cover the windows w/ going through the insurance. Also, try spraying some Pledge (furniture cleaner) and see if they are less noticeable. Goodluck.
