Drives: 2010 GSR

? for Current GSR Owners

Say you purchased a GSR. Its your daily driver, whats the predicted average for miles put on the car yearly? And then, what would the value of a GSR be with say 100,000miles on it. I know theres lots of other things you need to consider like accidents and maintance and how the car was driven but just say a normal daily driver with no accidents. Good car.....

Reason I ask is, say I buy a GSR and use it as my daily driver, then years down the road, the time comes to get something new, what would the value be of the car. My BMW has 78k and is 6 years old. The car is practically mint condition. The value of my car is just barely under the retail value because a BMWs value just stays high. What about the Evo X? Is the Evo X a car that I can trade in or PP sell for a decent price years later?

Summarized: I want to trade my GSR in years later; how will it hold up in terms of reliability and value?

There's really no definite answer, and I'm not sure if there are even any approximate figures yet.

But one thing that can help is to look at the used GSR's for sale right now. (Not very many at the time of this post.)

Maybe you can figure that it might follow in previous generations footsteps, and hold up pretty well.

But who knows? Maybe for some reason their might be a universal problem where the car might blow up at 50,000 miles. And then it'll be worth nothing.

Or you might get lucky to find some kid with all cash, no brains, and will pay more for a used than a new!

Ya its a very vague question but its important especially with the current economy we have. I've been nothing less then pleased with the ride it provides and AWD is priceless. Seems like a lot have been happy with the car which is always a +. Im just disappointing in the MR being a 6spd gear box. Any thoughts on that? I've never liked sportronic transmissions, they seem to take the fun out of "manual"

i use to think that to about sportronics. But its not your normal auto though. If you haven't driven a car with a dual clutch you really can't say anything. Its not how you imagine...it feels just like a manual with out a stick. The gears stay where you put them and if you are to high and get on it, its like doing it in a manual with sluggish response. Go test drive a VW with a DSG tranny, it will change your thoughts.

As for resale value...its wayyyyyyyyyyyy to early to predict that. If someone was trying to sell a GSR w/ 100k right now it wouldn't go for anything because it was done in a year. I was always told BMW's don't hold a great value, because most of the owners have money and rather just a buy a new on vs a used one. But i have never thought about buying one so i could be wrong.

You can use the Evo VIII and IX and see what they are worth. I dont think the X will be that far off seeing that they both were like 32,000 brand new.

The main reason that your BMW is "holding" its value is because BMW has historically inflated the used car market by:

- leasing the majority (60+%) of their vehicles -- so they set the used car market value by means of the residuals provided
- dealers being less than happy to haggle on pricing
- rarely offering rebates or incentives on their vehicles

Now, I think that this is about to change a bit. Over the last couple months, BMW has begun offering incentives (free auto transmission on 3 series, free premium package on 5 series, 0.9% financing, trunk money on Z3's, over inflated residuals on X3's). They have also announced that they are going to try and stop pushing leases and move to more sales (at higher prices even!).

Now as for your GSR? If you pay anywhere near sticker you are really screwed because South Coast is setting the bar so low on new vehicles. Basically any GSR SSS you buy will be worth $30k as soon as you drive it off the lot. It's really a guessing game in 4-6 years and 100k miles.

Right now, VIII and IX Evos with high mileage are not really worth nearly as much as unmolested low mileage VIII and IX's, but that's pretty common.

If they are anything like previous gen evos, resale should be decent. I sold my modded VIII with 55k miles for $23k in DEC 06 (3.5 years of ownership). I sold my Evo IX, lightly modded for $25k last month. Personally I am very happy with the resale compared to my old Grand Prix. It was worth 10k after two years and 24k miles. I bought it for $27k (every option at the time).

These cars can put a smile on your face every day.

Well, if previous history is any indicator of future performance, then get an MR. The old 06 IX, MRs are selling at 28k private seller, and I have seen some very low mile ones go for over 31k here in NC. AND they won't budge on the price, and the longest they sit there is 3 days, if they are truly unmolested.

Don't think about how many miles you are going to drive it (although you should consider consumable costs like tires and gas per year), but rather do like I do and try to sell it when it is worth $10k-$12k so you have a good down payment toward your next ride.

You just have to figure if the 3-5 year span that it takes for that value to drop to that range will be something you want to pay for. Maybe a car like a GSR might depreciate $300 a month for the first couple of years, and then less if it becomes a commodity on the used market, or if you keep the miles down.
