Why don't you go to a very nice reputable shot, or call around and see who does good EVAP testing. That has to be it. Something must be clogged and venting in the cabin.

I'm curious because the gas smell on my car seems to seep in no matter what the conditions of the HVAC (air con) system.

Also, its strong enough to still be ultra strong when I even pull the windows down.
It only came from inside the vehicle with the air on it was stronger. I specifically rolled down the windows to air it out.

that really blows for you X owners, i havent really seen any posts about this issue within the RA section althought i do see some in here... interesting...

Has anyone tried looking under there car ie put it up on blocks and get under while someone turns the key to "on" not "start" position to have the fuel pump purge/pressurize the line if done a few times it could show the leak or at least make the line damp.

It might be easier to find cause if you stop ur car get out the heat from it could dry the fuel up right away and u wont see the leak.

Hope you find a cure and i have no issues with my 09 RA "knock on wood"

Before I got the evo, I know it was an amazing machine... especially for the price. I just didnt know you could literally get high off the gas fumes when the weather gets above 100... So basically you can get high for free and a hard on when you punch the gas... I guess it is a win win rofl.

ps: Yea, today I got this crap and it was really bad. I got dizzy on a 20 min drive home from the smell. I am filing the complaint now, maybe it will get us somewhere...

Feeling good, I'm not the only one who is having this problem!

Now this thread is spreading like wildfire, google picked it up, this sh--'s gonna get fixed finally (sometime soon). Just gotta keep blowing up the Mitsu and NHTSA tellis

What I don't understand : Is this a US or RHD Evo / RA problem only? I mean whats up with the Aussie / Euro / Canada / Japan Cars? Probably a high chance they are experiencing this problem too (if the outside ambient temperature is high enough)...

I have an 08 and I have this issue.
Not sure where it comes from but its probably slowly killing me with the fumes.

My ac blows the fumes. My trunk also smells like gas when I open it too.

Ok everybody.. I had this and found it was the vent in the trunk...

drivers side rear bumper, put your arm up inside the bumper... If you have big ars, take the fender liner off the drivers very rear of rear wheel... There is a aprox. 10"x8" cut out that has 3 rubber flaps.... It popped out, put it back in.

Thank me when done please.

If it was coming from the trunk then why would it be so strong through the ac and not so much when you turn it off. Mine I know least is only unbearable and really only noticeable when the ac is on.

Hard to imagine my brand new '11 (a week off the truck) had a loose cutout, but I'll check anyway.

If 3 ppl can vouch for this that will be great (also do RA's have this?)

meanwhile, I will wait for the NHTSA's investigation, and the coming recall...

I found the problem that causes EVERYONE'S fuel smell.open the trunk, on the drivers side open the cutout. There's a HCAC recirculate flap that comes out. It was inside tge bumper. I put it back in and no more smell.
