ETS FMIC, few questions
1. Which core should I go with? 3 inch or 4 inch? I do not plan to go big with power...just bolt ons and tune...it seems like 3 inch should be the way to go since its a 700hp replacement...but I see many people running the 4 inch version....any particular reason as to why?
2. Will I be okay with sticking to the stock LICP? I heard it flows well stock.... my main goal is to pocket as much money as possible (don't we all? haha)
3. Will adding FMIC affect cobb ap OTS tunes? Positively or Negatively?
thank you!

Replacing the stock licp is one of the better mods you can do to the car. The stock one gets real narrow and tapers off to different sizes.

I'd go with the lower pipe too. Not sure about the Cobb but I would imagine you'd want to get a different tune.
As for the 3" vs 4", it depends on your goals with the car. Are you going to be racing quite a bit or is this more a DD? The bigger IC would affect spool, but it shouldn't be by much. I've never run it, so I'm not sure how the effect is.
I run the 3.5" and so far I am very happy.

I think your question should be 3.5" vs 4" . Unless you're going to go with insane amount of power, go with the 3.5".
You're going to get more gains out of an ECU flash tune than with the cobb. There are quite a few reasons people are selling their cobbs. You might want to research it a bit more.
I got the LICP because it improves stability and throttle response. Not a big difference, but I have the piece of mind of having the complete kit and I definitely like it. 100% ets, fmic, licp, and uicp. Looks great too.

I got the ETS 4.5" FMIC on my car still with stock turbo.. the car made tons more power bc the air temps stayed faily cool.. I would def get a 4" core it will make more efficient power and lag between the stock and 4.5" fmic isnt even noticable.

All of these NON X owners are full of CRAP.
On the X the UICP is the one that makes power. The stock LICP on the X is almost all hard pipe already.
I'd get a 3 or 3.5" FMIC. The 4" requires a bit of "massaging" to get to fit right.
And the FMIC and hard pipes won't work correctly with OTS cobb maps. They'll cause P1235 when you get on the power (since the drop in boost from turbo to intake will be less, so an overboost condition will exist).

Funny how evo 8/9 owners are answering questions in an X forum. The X's make power with the UICP. I did own an 8 it was the LICP that made a difference. But the OP has an X.

At least someone is informed.
Just because you 8/9 owners gain power with the LICP doesnt mean we will.
To the OP: FOR THE EVO X THE UICP IS THE ONLY IC PIPE THAT WILL NET YOU ANY GAINS, THE STOCK LICP IS FINE, AND CHANGING IT OUT WILL NOT GAIN YOU ANY MORE POWER.

So are you X owners that are making a stink about IX owners comments saying there is no reason to go with a lower? He didn't ask about the upper and I didn't see anyone commenting about it (until later).
Personally I would lean toward getting the whole package but are you all saying it isn't necessary?

The lower isn't necessary unless you want to spend the money. Can I say it more plainly? There are a couple HP there, but not enough to spend $200 plus on the lower.
A 5 minute search of the X forums would have already returned this info though...

nice, thanks for the responses guys
now for the FMIC, why do people go 4 inch versus 3 inch or 3.5 inch? the FMIC is $499 starting at the 3 inch...if its already a 700hp replacement...why bother spending the extra $100-$200 on thicker cores?
remember, I am looking to spend my money wisely...and not throw it out there because bigger is better....or because evo 8 & 9 owners said so...LOL, jk

I agree the UICP will give better throttle response, but so will the LICP. Although it has less rubber to it, there is still a fairly lengthy section of balloon piping. Making all your charge pipes hard tubing will give you a better throttle response and help control your boost better.
It’s like your exhaust... you can put a nice downpipe/test pipe on but if you’re running the stock muffler, your system is only as good as its weakest or smallest point).
My suggestion would be a solid UICP and LICP and a 3" intercooler core. They put the hp ratings up there for a reason and if you dont plan on going past the rating than dont bother spending more money for no reason
And I have seen a number of people running the Cobb AP and UICP and LICP with out any problems

I was at the track in August, in Oklahoma. It was 106* ambient, about 120* on the track. A 4" is a must to keep the air cool.
