I would love to see this swap happen. You'll probably be the first if you did.

didnt mitsubishi test the 4b11T and drivetrain in a nine? i remember seeing a video of them doing winter testing and the video was talking about the S-AYC and other systems for the 10.. but in a 9 body so it wouldn't draw too much attention/

well let me just share with you what i have learned thus far about that.

if you were in anyway intending on maintaining a stock aspect to all your components...goooooood luck

but if you just want to have the 4b11t in the car with that drive train, there is quite a bit of work. first of all the engine in the X is mounted the other way, so motor mounts and everything would have to be complete one off there. In doing so you need to line up the transmission and AWD. Being as the X is flipped, the shaft down down to the rear diff is in a different place...but again, some moderately fancy fab work and your good to go.

The biggest obstacle is going to be the 4B11Ts CAN system computer. There is a central mainframe computer that communicates with the other smaller computers. The mainframe dies the whole system dies. EVERYTHING from the radio, to climate control, to throttle, to transmission and even G sensors go into this computer. The throttle is also not a standard cable system on connecting to the butterfly in the throttle body. There are actually two PODs that are connected to the peddle. If i remember correctly is something like one pod is 0-5 hrtz an the other is 5-0. they are designed to offset one another in the event of one failing...ANYWAY, this tells the computer what the driver wants and analyzes it with all the other information AND THEN the computer tells a small electric motor how much to open the butterfly.

the biggest problem is the computer in my opinion. BUT if you can get the throttle system with the motor, put it in the 9 and ur not worried about the climate control, radio...blah blah blah....a system like the cosworth or GEMS EMS's will solve that problem..

GOOD LUCK I WANNA SEE IT IF YOU DO IT!

right now im working on putting a 4b11t in a sand rail.
