Battery Question
I just happened to look at my battery today and noticed it had an optima redtop. Is that normal?

you have a srt-4 and asking on a evo forum?
And what do you mean if that is normal? As in is it stock? If that is what you are asking then no the optima red top is not stock.

Mine came *STOCK* with a Panasonic something-or-other, but when I picked up the car it was dead (had sat on the lot too long) and was replaced with an Optima Red Top one. Don't know if they're coming from the factory with that or not.

Mine didnt come with a red top, I wish it did, they have 10 year warranty rather than 6.

It's a 2008. So thats five evo x's that I have heard of now coming with a redtop and some say panasonic. That's strange.

Is the panasonic a agm battery? Maybe the did that due to being in the trunk and being safer or something.

The dealership must have replaced it with a redtop for whatever reason.

For the 2008 Evo Xs, some of them were sitting on the lot too long and the batteries were losing their ability to hold charges. So many dealers replaced the Panasonic with the Optima when people bought their 08s, especially if they bought them more recently. I got an Optima battery with my 2008 Evo X when I bought it in June 2009.
I've heard that the Optima battery is actually better than the Panasonic battery (for whatever reason), so you might be able to get your dealer to change your Panasonic to the Optima under warranty if you complain about it not holding a charge or whatever (it's such a common issue that they will usually do it without asking why).

All optima batteries are dry cycles batteries and are pretty damn expensive. They are much better because they can withstand up 15x more vibration and last twice as long. I saw some testing they did online a couple years back and they shot the battery with a gun and the battery was still functional. Safe to say that these batteries are BULLETPROOF!

I assume mine is Panasonic. I haven't been in the trunk in a while but I definitely don't remember seeing a Optima Red top.
