Exedy Clutch= Failed

My stock clutch gave out on me around last June.I drag race & go to the track a lot so it was only in time the stock clutch would go.I wanted the best clutch made for the evo X & everyone told me exedy twin.I had no problem using this clutch because in my Evo 9 this clutch worked fine with many launches on it.I Purchased the clutch & it felt great not to much chatter noise, was easy to daily drive, great clutch feel & worked fine when we went to the track. Four months later & only about 3k miles on the clutch I need a new one!!!!!!!!

& the price of a rebuild kit I was quoted at around 1000$ which is crazy.I was going to wait for a Quartermaster clutch but toes don't come out until december & I would get the Exedy tripple but I'm planning on going big & I wouldn't want this to go on me.
What you guys think I should do buy the exedy tripple & kill myself 2500$ or wait for the quarter master?

I had an exedy twin and bought the pieces to convert it to a triple. I got the parts from Slowboy. The price came out to around the same as the rebuild kit. A warning though, the triple is loud. Makes alot of noise.

For what it is worth, my ACT HDSS that all the internet groupies trash has 10K miles on it with easily 100+ launches from auto x and the drag strip, has never slipped on my full weight 11 second car, then I added a big shot of nitrous and it still has held and never slipped. I flat shift every gear at the track and it is smooth as silk. When my motor let go I took a look at the clutch and the disk looks in great shape...hardly any wear. It took more power than the motor could

The ACT in my VIII went 30K miles of the same abuse...bolt ons, cams, 150 shot of spray for the drag strip and lots of auto x. It finally needed replaced after I sold the car to a guy who had never owned a manual car. He spent the big bucks on an Exedy Twin and he has mostly complains about it for driving the car to work every day.

A new ACT is less than your rebuild kit.

I really like competition clutches and don't get the triple now. It is loud, tough, and you will probably need to replace the discs my the time you actually upgrade.

We have the EXEDY rebuild pack for $525 and are a Master Distributor for Quartermaster for the Evo. We will have the best pricing if you decide on the QM twin.

Let us know if we can help!

My personal experience with the ACT is not a good one. I got lock out in 2nd and 3rd gear and it only lasted about 10k miles. And I only launched on it 2 or 3 times.

The triple holds real well. It takes some getting used to for daily driving and like I mentioned, it is very loud. If your exhaust note doesn't get the crowds attention, the triple will. I have no problems with all the noise. My evo is barely street legal as it is.

exedy seems unnecessary to me. I think it's interesting what DRAG said and that would sell me to at least try the ACT before going to the exedy, mostly cuz it's cheaper.

Two rods broke in half on a 200 shot. It held up to 125 and 150 just fine. It was my fault...I sprayed it too low on a street roll. Unfortunatley, I hadn't made it to the track yet like that because it rained out several weeks straight. My only bench racing point of reference is racing an LSx car that traps 125 and I pulled him pretty good on a smaller shot. I really regret trying more before hitting the track Greed.

As far as the clutch holding up. I murder these ACTs. They hold 600wtq all day.

My tuner also recommends the ACT 6 Puck with HD disk. He said he would run this in his car over the Exedy twins any day. They are cheaper and hold more power. He said the twins are nice but they just won't hold all the torque that is needed. He has seen many more twins crap out much earlier than the ACT 6 pucks. I am going to go with the 6 puck soon, well when my stock clutch goes or I get a new turbo, I am thinking the new turbo will happen first

Going to see if I can just rebuild my twin into a tripple but as Drag stated if the act can hold these shots & wtq & save money why not I hope exedy fixes this problem
