IS this normal?
I dropped off the car today to my mechanic shop and went back to work, and he drove the car around for a bit...see if everythings fine etc..so He called me back about an hr or so..He said why is my boost so high "25-26 PSi"?
And he asked me if I installed anything internal, cams etc... I said NO.
Current mods are Invidia Q300 Catback with T1R Test Pipe, ARC UICP, ARC Suction Intake Box, Ultimate LICP, Perrin IC. 91 OCt. Stock Turbo. No tune yet.
Is this something normal, I know black smoke comes out on WOT...Running Rich

yes...the more important question is, why does your mechanic know this?

I think what he meant was, why is your mechanic pushing full boost at WOT in your car?

^^^+1, especially since you haven't had it tuned, can't believe your mechanic is beatin' on your X. Take it easy until you get a custom tune.

Boost isn't the same as fueling. Probably just something wrong with your gauge if you haven't installed a boost controller--a X should be 20-21 psi stock.

stock boost is debatable on an Evo X. some have said as low as 19psi or as high as 25psi...my guess is because he is running a test pipe he gets a little spike up to 26-27psi.

I have stock tune on the Evo X and with the Greddy Informeter I read 23.2 max psi on the stock turbo. I have Greddy SE Exhaust, Test pipe, and a drop in filter only. Both on and off the test pipe I have gotten peak of 23.2 psi roughly. It could be boosting more because I heard the on board IN-MAP sensor on the Evo X can only read up to 23 psi but the car boosts up to 24 psi max. Anything above 24 psi without a tune is not safe unless your logging knock to make sure your ok to peak above that and only for a 1-2 seconds.

Could be boost creep from the induction and exhaust parts. Usually that would occur with O2 housing and DP though. You should get a tune or reflash asap.

is it reading the boost through the obdii connection or did you install a separate boost sensor? reading full boost through the ecu requires 2 bytes which iirc only mode23 enabled evoscan and the AP can do without a separate 3 bar map sensor.

Its the intercooler pipes causing boost to go that high.
Although I'd be ALL over the dealer for boosting that high unless they were checking something else.
My dealer drives it barely above 3krpm when testing the car for something. If it's something that requires a WOT they have me do it.

It's reading off the obdii which is limited by the factory sensor mounted after the turbo in the manifold. The greddy informeter is actually just reading manifold pressure. It's more accurate to read off the vac lines which usually shows a higher psi than what is read on the manifold pressure. The greddy informeter without the optional boost sensor plugs will read off the obdii which mine is doing. So it's safe to say my car could be boosting +- 1-2PSI from the IN-MF pressure reading. If you can get a boost gauge to read off the vac, that is your best bet for accurate readings.

When I took my car in to have it tuned Jestr told me it was knocking like crazy which would cause the ecu to dump excess fuel into the cylinder causing a rich mixture and black smoke to come out of your tail pipes. You definitely should have your car tuned asap.
