Oil Analysis - Who is doing it here?
I'm thinking I could save some time and money by doing oil analysis. I was going to switch to Amsoil (instead of Mobil1), and then start doing oil analysis.
Whoever is doing oil analysis already on their Evo: how are you getting your sample? Do you use a valve on your oil pan, or pull it from the dipstick?
I'm thinking I would just get a valve for the oil pan drain plug, but wanted to know if there was a place I could get a part made to fit already. Preferably maybe with a magnet built in (I've always used magnetic drain plugs on previous cars).

What's the point? I am amazed at the amount of people that are infatuated with lubrication. Yes it's extremely important but even the cheapest fluids do an excellent job providing they are changed at proper intervals. Most engine failures on these cars will be due to high boost, poor tune, or lack of fuel. I have spent plenty of time in garages and never saw an engine failure that Amsoil or some other wonder fluid would have prevented. Millions of people are getting 200 000 miles on cars with simple dyno oil.

I am planning on sending in my oil for analysis. I use M1 EP 5w-30, I want to see how long my oil life is expected, changes in viscosity due to fuel dilution, and how my engine is wearing. I might do it again in another 15k miles. The car has 9500 miles, and changed oil every 4500 miles.
I will post results whenever I will get them.

I think you are missing part of the point when oil changes run $75 with Mobil1. So if it saves me money by not having to change my oil every 3000 miles, then I am all for it.
Or does everyone just go to JiffyLube for their oil changes? I am going to the dealer and its killing me to pay that much for Mobil1.

FWIW I run AMS SSO and EAO046 filters and change them both myself every 5,000 miles. I've been doing so since 4800 miles. The car now has over 31,000 miles on it.

Unless you're exposing the car to more extreme conditions (Like the track), I think there is way too much of a concern about oil condition on these forums. Follow recommended maintenance schedules and enjoy.

Nobody is talking "Wonder Fluid" but you.
Cheap fluids do not do a wonderful job and this has been shown in ASTM Tests time and again.
I have spent years in shops that I have owned and can tell you I have seen my share of engine failures from oil.
A high Boost, hard run engine can live a long healthy life when a Premium oil is used. Oils are formulated to withstand extreme pressures through the use of Premium Base Stocks and additives that will have a high Film Strength.
Oil analysis in som EVO X's have shown that Mobil 1 EP, although a very good oil, is past due to be changed at 3000 miles. The analysis is showing elevated wear metals due to the oil breaking down from fuel dilution.
However, analysis is showing that the same engine with AMSOIL SSO had less wear metal at a much higher mileage even though the fuel dilution was greater.
All in the Base Stocks, Additives and the Film Strength they create.
All oils are not alike.
Oil, is the Life Blood of your engine. The oil Filter, is the Kidney that keeps it clean.

I run the M1 EP for 4500 miles twice. Both time the oil came out dark (does not indicate anything). However it did not smell like fuel at all, it smelled pretty close to a fresh bottle of M1. Not all the 4B11 engines have issues with fuel dilution, however sending out my sample tomorrow for analysis to see if its doing its job. If its not doing a good job at this interval either change oils or intervals.
I guess we will see in a week.

Is this thread serious, sending for a oil analysis.  buy a synthetic and beat the crap out of it. These are lancers not Lamborghini's  On that note I would never consider changing any gear or tranny fluid for at least 100,000 miles.

but it is cheaper to replace the oils than gears, diffos $10K+ dual clutch transmissions

Start doing it yourself, its $22 for a 5 quart bottle of Mobil1 at walmart, with a filter its basically $30 or less for an oil change.

Bah all salesmen speak.
You can't have one oil thread in a car forum without a lurking Amsoil salesman spouting their gospel. It's all about changing your oil within the appropriate intervals for your driving habits. I don't want to see lab tests that Amsoil paid to have done, show me any EVO engine that failed due to lubrication issues that Amsoil would have prevented.

Changed my oil out for the third time yesterday, car runs completely different. IDK what it was but for some reason my car feels like it should... while 2 days ago it didnt. It could be in my head but I def think I notice a difference...

I know AMSOIL is great stuff but it's pushed Waaaaay too hard. What I really dislike is the strong-arm tactics when it comes to discussing any other oil besides AMSOIL.
It's almost cult-like...especially when you have participants in oil threads that *cough* have 100% of their small post counts exclusively in oil threads. Same guys pushing AMSOIL. Oil fanatics that ventured away from BITOG?
There comes a time when coincidence becomes pattern...

I don't see me trying to sell anything except some facts.
I have not come from Bitog as I think the site isn't worth very much as it is all regular people doing oil analysis where 99% don't have a clue about what they are doing.
The facts are that if you take care of your car, it will pay back in the long run.
Regardless of Brand, Synthetic or petroleum, Oil, is the Life Blood of your engine. The oil filter, is the Kidney that keeps it clean. Run the best you can of both.
