Hmmm... I bought the UR Walbro 255 lph HP kit with hi-flow filter and switched at the same time as going to E85. This eliminates the stock fuel filter. Is this what you're using as well? What exactly were the issues you saw that triggered pulling the pump? I'm also running an inline, so curious if that could mask a problem. Thanks for the info. Would be good to see a test done outside of the car to see if there is a breakdown issue.

What kind of gas mileage are you seeing on e85? I just found out there is a pump down the street from where i live in Arlington VA...

Seeing 21-24MPG highway, 16-19MPG city. At the track though, I expect to easily burn though a tank in 30 minutes. It really flows when on it hard  . I did see an amazing 26MPG after it was first tuned, but it seems the car self-adjusted because it didn't like cruising that lean.

Yes inline filter. btw the UR inline filter almost burst on us so you might want to upgrade to a heavier duty one. I believe the UR one is just a WIX.
The fuel sock on the end of the pump is not the actual fuel filter but just so the pump doesn't suck up large items. Are you not using a fuel pump sock?
The fueling problems was leaning out up top at "low" boost levels. We finally tracked it down to the car losing pretty much all additional fuel pressure and just falling back down to base, most likely because the pump is restricted...

Wow, how do you know it almost burst?
I have seen a change in my AFRs that is still unexplained. At cruise, they appear OK, but maybe slightly richer than originaly tuned for. At WOT, I'm seeing 12.4-12.9 which is definitely leaner than it was tuned for. I will be logging this tonight for my tuner.
My 2nd pump can probably supply enough additional pressure to damage the filter. Is there a check for that?

Because it was bulging at the seams..
How much leaner are you then you where tuned for? Did you just drain the pump and put E85 in the day of the tune? The car will lean out a bit more after that once you get 100% E85 in the car. You would be surprised how just a little pump still in the car can skew the AFR.
This happens on every Evo I tune on E85 unless they run E85 through a couple tanks before the tune date. I usually just account for the "lean-out" with the fuel map when they leave.

Can you post up the part numbers of the lines we will need?
Also, is a FPR a must with this setup? Same with the upgraded fuel lines (other than those used in the fuel pump assembly)?
I'm looking to go with a red and e85 in the near future and don't want to run into any problems.

I was tuned for 11.7 under load, with low 12s being the max expected. Good point though, athough the tank was pretty thoroughly drained, it was still a same-day affair. Not sure how safe high 12s are, so we may adjust.

High 12's are pushing it. E85 tunes up there are usually for track cars only.

i see this all the time at work
People are putting e85 in none flex fuel cars and the fuel pumps and fuel lines are failing from this
when we ask them why they are running e85 in there none flex fuel cars the answer we get is its cheaper

GST - have you modified the fuel system, and did it fix the lean issue? Any fuel filter / sock recommendations?
Also, if you don't mind me asking, where do you usually set the long term fuel trim with E85?

Yes looks a new pump solved the issues. I'll know 100% for sure probably next week.
I tune the injectors/latency as close to 0% FT as possible. +/- 3 or so.

You want your fuel trims to be as close to 0 as possible, that way the ECU isn't adding or subtracting much to maintain Stoich, which leaves it more room to correct for differences in fuel, environment, etc.
As far as LTFT, + would be adding fuel to your fuel map (running richer) and - would be taking fuel away (running leaner)
I require all E85 tunes that come through our shop to have widebands so they can keep an eye on their fueling. It came in handy a couple months ago when the local E85 station was serving up E50...
