My engine tick
My engine had a tick from the day i bought it back in January. People said it was the injectors or the coil packs firing and i didn't worry about it. Till last week when i finally met up with another guy here in vegas with a GSR and his doesn't tick..
Currently my car is at the dealership with the head being pulled off. they believe its a couple bent valves, but are waiting till they pull them and talk to mitsubishi. I will update this post once i have heard from them today. Just wanted to give a heads up to people that have heard some bad noises from their compartment.
update oct 11th -
I just got the car back from dealship. the tech said the car is drivable and they ( mitsubishi ) haven't released anything for them to fix it, so unless a valve fails I'm boned for now. I read thru the paperwork briefly and it stated the noise is in all four cylinders and its not the injectors.

never, even when i took the car out to the track i short shifted it at 6k-6500 and as i said the night i pulled out of the dealship it was there.. on both of the GSR's they had.. So I was under the impression that it was the coils or the injectors since none of my previous cars used setups like this car

Do keep us updated. I too have noticed a clicking, I assumed it was a semi-lousy setup with the new timing chain. Had mine since day 1, but it hasn't ever caused me any issues other than makes me irritated everyonce in a while.

I used to get a similar ticking sound on my old integra when the valve lash would come out of adjustment. Of course, the evos have an automatic lash adjuster, but this can fail as well. If this is the case, my understanding is you'll get a ticking or a chattering sound.
Don't know if this applies to an X or not, but I took this from the '03 VIII service manual:
LASH ADJUSTER CHECK M1111002900347
If an abnormal noise (chattering noise) is heard by malfunction
of the lash adjuster immediately after starting the engine and
does not disappear, it might be the lash adjusters. Perform the
following check.
NOTE: An abnormal noise due to malfunction of the lash
adjuster is produced immediately after starting the engine and
changes with the engine speed, irrespective of the engine load.
If, the abnormal noise is not produced immediately after start-
ing the engine or does not change with the engine speed, or it
changes with the engine load, the lash adjuster is not the cause
for the abnormal noise.
NOTE: When the lash adjuster is malfunctioning, the abnormal
noise is rarely eliminated by running the engine at idle speed.
However, the abnormal noise may disappear only when seizure
is caused by oil sludge in the engine whose oil is not main-
tained properly.
1. Start the engine.
2. Check if the abnormal noise produced immediately after
starting the engine changes with the change in the engine
speed.
If the abnormal noise is not produced immediately after
starting the engine or it does not change with the engine
speed, the lash adjuster is not the cause for the noise.
Therefore, investigate other causes. The abnormal noise is
probably caused by some other parts than the engine proper
if it does not change with the engine speed. (In this case, the
lash adjuster is in good condition.)
3. With the engine idling, change the engine load to make sure
that there is no change in the level of abnormal noise.
If there is a change in the level of abnormal noise, suspect a
tapping noise due to worn crankshaft bearing or connecting
rod bearing. (In this case, the lash adjuster is in good
condition.)
4. After completion of warm-up, run the engine at idle to check
for abnormal noise.
If the noise is reduced or disappears, clean the lash adjuster
(Refer to GROUP 11B − Engine overhaul − Rocker Arms
and Camshaft − Inspection P.11B-32.) It is suspected that
the noise is due to collapse of the lash adjuster. If there is no
change in the level of the abnormal noise, proceed to step 5.
5. Run the engine to bleed the lash adjuster system. (Refer to.)
6. If the abnormal noise does not disappear after air bleeding
operation, clean the lash adjuster (Refer to GROUP 11B −
Engine overhaul − Rocker Arms and Camshaft − Inspection
P.11B-32.)
Good luck with getting things fixed.

At first I was worried, brushed off the worry, and it was reinstated when the OP mentioned it. My LS2 didn't tick... But that's apples to oranges.
