Forge WGA testing

Today we tested a Forge WGA upgrade on a Evo X with just a cat back exhuast which previously made a best of 319 whp on our dyno

We installed the Forge upgraded actuator and found that the boost held significantly better through the power band

Power increased to 330 whp with a very conservative tune, but peak numbers dont tell the whole story as the shape of the curve is much improved and the power climbs all the way out to the red line

I will post a video and dyno sheet later when I have time after watching the moose hunter debate the liberal on TV

in the meantime, I wanted to suggest that the WGA upgrade seems like a great modfication on the X

11 peak whp sounds about right going from a stock WGA to the Forge. Once you preload the stock WGA that peak number becomes very similar as the turbo is doing all it can at 6k and above. Now at the 3-6k range I've held very steady boost in the low to mid range RPM's and the car has gained a ton of torque and better hp under the curve.

I set my boost in 5th gear for 26 psi and it will hold 25 psi in third all the way to 6k after which it tapers due to flow limits. The stock WGA would allow taper at a much lower RPM unless you really over preloaded it to the point of not being able to run lower boost due to restricting the internal wastegate flapper. The Forge WGA is a great upgrade for consistant and controllable boost levels and I can recommend it even if the stock turbo prevents it from improving the 6k+ rpm range. I would also be interested to see an overlayed dyno sheet of how mid range is the biggest boost with this mod.

Interestingly, on this car we were unable to set it to achieve lower than a 25 psi minimum boost spike on pre load. We were running the boost through a Forge UNOS MBC. On pre load we set it with the least amount of pre load we felt prudent so that there were sufficient threads in the fitting at the end of the rod and the minimum boost spike was no lower than 25 psi. We tried 2 full turns extra pre load and it had no effect on the boost level or power.

The car seemed to hold 22 psi or 21 psi of boost for a really long time on the road. Frankly, while the peak power increase was not that earth shattering, the change in the feel of the power band was very inpressive.

Bang for the buck wise its a great modficiation.

For me zero preload was just barely being able to slip it on the eyelet

I ended up with 1 turn in from there and so far I can do 22-23 psi minimum boost while still being able to get solid low to mid boost control to 26 psi with an MBC. Still tapers beyond 6k but it's a great upgrade for holding boost as long as possible in the mid range.

This is my car Al is talking about here. Thanks for everything Al, I had a blast driving back home the car pulls nice and strong considering the mods it has which isn't much. It was definately worth the upgrade and with the re-tune you gave it it seems I get slightly better gas mileage. I'm going to keep the car like this for a few months more than likely until early next year and then get rid of the cat. Hopefully my schedule is nice and stable by then and we can get pipe installed and re-tune a little bit more aggresive to make that extra power. Based on the way this car is reacting to mods it wouldn't surprise me if we break 360whp with out an intake.

Thanks for allowing us to use your car for our testing

As i am writing this we are installing the WGA on our X with full BR stage III - and drop in pistons - should be interesting

Thanks for the write up. I already adjusted my stock WGA, does the forge adjust the same? Does the forge WGA need adjusting or just plug and play?
