So it sounds like we'd stick with the red spring as this car seems to live in the mid to upper 20 psi range. Is this a correct statement?

24-26 psi is about what most tune for on 93 octane, I think the red spring with one turn preload will be about 22 psi minimum boost and your boost control raises it from there.

Here's my reply to another thread:

I can't comment, however, on whether or not Cobb specifically offers a tune that will be able to keep up with the extra boost.

D-Sport magazine recently tested our actuator on their in-house Evo X and they picked up tons of power. 47 whp actually, at 6800 rpm. I'm not sure what tuning they were utilizing, but I'm trying to get my hands on their dyno graphs.

Here is a recent dyno of our actuator (with just a 10-15 PSI spring) on the VW and Audi 2.0T FSI applications.

42 whp and 47 wtq

I have read that MR's have issues with waste gate actuators and boost controllers. Is that the case with this actuator as well?

MR's have the exact same engine mechanicals and tuning as standard Evo's.

I don't see how they would react any differently to the actuator.

I've heard that you need to tune your car with the new Forge WGA. To adjust the wastegate duty cycles and such. Is this true? I thought the upgraded actuator was supposed to be a simple install with a few adjustments to preload and that's it. No tuning.

Hello, I have an ETS O2 dump/ downpipe along with an artisan testpipe and catback.

I was interested in getting this wastegate with the red spring and set preload at 22psi. I was then going to get the forge Mbc and set it at 22psi until i got tuned. Is there a problem with this setup?

I also plan on getting u/l intercooler piping, fmic and intake before i go in for a tune. I have a boost guage and wideband so i can monitor both of those. If AFR is safe, Should i be worried about running the car hard with all the mods listed above without a tune?
Thanks,
Jay

We typically build the units with the red spring, but the base pressures available by request are:

Green spring - 5-10 PSI
Yellow spring - 10-15 PSI
Blue spring - 14-18 PSI
Red spring - 19-24 PSI
Please forgive my ignorance, but I don't get why the different Forge WGA springs are rated with PSI ranges... shouldn't a linear spring just be overcome at a set pressure level (given the constant surface area of the internal diaphragm or piston) and therefore be rated at just one boost pressure level, at least referenced to sea level?

In contrast, FP's upgraded WGAs are rated at a specific pressure - 18 psi and 25 psi:

http://store.forcedperformance.net/m...Lancer-TurboHW

And if the answer is "how much you preload the WGA will affect the actual pressure at which it will open," I don't grasp that either. My understanding is that preload doesn't affect spring rate - right?

It seems to me that adjusting preload on the WGA just affects whether the flapper door is loose/leaking, snug/closed, or tensioned shut supertight BEFORE the boost controller/WGA allows it to open.

They are not linear rate springs that we're using.

They're progressive, so the more pre-load you add, the stiffer the initial cracking pressure of the spring will be within its given range.
