Vacuum leak after install AEM intake
hey guys.. so here is the deal... I got my AEM intake.. put it on...then had some difficulties...
the biggest problem i have is that im pretty sure i have a vacuum leak. Upon starting up the car.. my idle sounds like a heartbeat..(bump,bump,bump) it almost sounds like it would die (lights dim as rpm drops to 250 and then pumps back to normal) and when i slow down to a stop i put the clutch in and the RPM's randomly go up and the engine revs?? There is a noise similar to a can compressed air, this noise is consistently on if the car is on.
the pic below is where i believe the vacuum leak is
also after installation.. i was left with this piece that i never put on??? what is it.. could this lead to the problem?
lastly... with my problems that i said.. is it safe to assume that it is a vacuum leak?
any help is needed...thanks!

If I'm not mistaken, that's the piece that goes on the inside of the airbox, that ensures a tight fit between the inlet pipe and the airbox... I would think that is where the "vacuum leak" is coming from...
Try putting that in and see...

That piece is the seal that goes on the inside of the round hole on the back side of the box. Its just needed to keep warm air out of the box.
I'd bet that your issue is that 10" hose that the gave you to go from the bop valve to the engine(the one you are pointing at in the first pic). It's too big. I had to leave mine off and use the original one. I'm going to stop by the store tomorrow and get a proper size and length one.
I just installed mine earlier today, btw.

The seal is installed on step 3.c in your instructions.

thanks so much for the replies! ok.. yeah the extra piece when they said edge trim i used the styrofoam from the stock intake box(i thought that was the edge trim)...
and i guess i have to use the old piece... where would i be able to go to get a tubing like that? just go to home depot and ask for a rubber tube?
thanks again guys!

I'm going to check an automotive store for vacuum lines.
What sucks is that I will probably have to bring my pliers and take it off at the store to make sure I get the right size.

if your idle goes up and down almost dying, i'm assuming there is a vacuum leak before the maf...or the maf has a leak/or not properly installed...

I just got a new BPV vacuum tube today. The one include in the kit is definitely the wrong size for my '10 X. (It may be correct for an '08)

yep.. the tube they gave me was DEFINATELY tooo big... as soon as i put the stock vacuum line on the car sounded normal again!... the stock line fits...so you can get away with it...i plan on eventually getting a tube with the right size as the stock line is a tad bit short...
