Can I use the AP on my X to read SES codes (OBD II Service Engine Soon codes)without installing or marrying the unit to the car with the codes? If no, how do I install/marry the unit without installing a new tune?

Just an update. The AP will not "install" to the car without also selecting a tune (map).
However it has a Troubleshooting menu item that will read and clear codes without being installed (married).

(For the rest of you reading this he was using the K&N filter with an HKS map.)
The K&N panel filer is within 1-2% on calibrations all the way down the line and pretty much a perfect match. so I would say your more than good to go on using these on that map."

any confirmation from cobb?

It is wheel hp, but it is for reference only and might not compare to a proper dyno number, especially because vehicle weight can be a big variable.

I already have a MBC installed and running a few extra psi - would the AP have issues with that? Would I need to revert back to the stock boost control system?

Hey guys,
With a Cobb AP stage 2 tune (91 CA gas here), the website states the factory intake and filter must remain intact but a turbo back exhaust is required as well as the removal of the factory boost pill.
Sorry for the noob question but would the tune work properly if say a AMS intercooler and intercooler piping were installed?
Thank you in advance for your replies.

You can use an AP to read codes and reset codes without marrying it. I've done it.

Yes. The AP uses the ecu to control boost. A stage 2 is around 25 psi.

Yes. The intercooler is between the mas and the intake, so its air is already measured.

No. Stage II requires a turbo back, not cat-back, exhaust. If you are running the factory downpipe and cat, leave the pill in and run Stage I.

Works like a champ. You can try the normal Stage I map and log for timing- if you're not getting knock, don't bother with changing; if you do, go with the HKS map and relog.

Ok so even more of a noob question... now i'm confused to how a intercooler works:
I thought the purpose of the intercooler is to cool down the temperature of the air flowing through the intercooler and therefore increasing the density of the air. If the air density is increased... the additional air needs to come from somehwere... so I'm guessing more air has to be drawn in from the intake? If more air is being drawn in... than the MAS will get that reading... regardless if it's after the intercooler or before.
Therefore... the installing a intercooler would be no difference versus installing a new drop in filter to increase air flow right? And from this thread... I've concluded that anything which messes with the factory MAS reading will not work correctly with these Cobb tunes.
Someone please correct my confusion somewhere? Or does my logic deduce that intercoolers cannot be used?

A brief intake flow chart:
Filter->Intake-> MAS->Turbo Inlet->Turbo->UICP-> Intercooler->LICP->Throttle body->Int Manifold->Head
No. Installing an intercooler is only going to effect measured air, and therefore it will not have an effect on the mas reading. This is very different from changing a filter or intake. Power gains from an intercooler are due to denser air at the cylinder intake. The ecu is able to deal with this because even though the air is denser, it is air that the ecu has accounted for by weight (g/sec).
It is not just Cobb tunes, it is any tune. Anything you do forward of the mas, like intakes, has the potential to effect the tune, by changing the airflow over the mas, and effecting its measurement of air. This then in turn effects how much fuel the ecu meters, possibly effecting your afr. Any gains from an intake are gonig to be due to increased air flow, not a change in air density. Some intakes actually change the mas housing, making it more likely to effect the tune than intakes wich leave the factory mas housing in place. This explanation does not take into account that the car is pig rich from the factory, and to a point leaning it out makes power. So please don't read anything into this.

You may be over thinking it, and confusing yourself, since you seem to understand this, but are still confused. So short version is intercoolers are fine on an off the shelf tune, intakes not so much.
