AMS Street Class EVO X : Cam Testing and 700whp!

Just today we had a chance to test some new AMS spec camshafts in our street class EVO X. The car was baselined with kelford 'B' cams on the same tune that the car ran out at Buttonwillow and set the street class record with, narrowly beating our Shop GTR, both being piloted by AMS's president Martin Musial.

The design goal for these cams was to make more power, while still being able to retain adequate drivability on the stock ECU. Major Modifications to the car are as follows:

AMS 2.3L motor with 10:1 compression ratio
AMS Prototype CNC head package w/ 1mm over valves
AMS Spec Camshafts
AMS FMIC, LICP, UICP
AMS 900x turbo kit @ 33 psi
AMS Single exit 3" exhaust
AMS Custom paralell fuel pump system
AMS Fuel rail
ID 2000cc injectors @ 72% IDC
ECU controlled boost, single bottom port WG solenoid


Here you can see the results from our cam testing. These cams are available now. There are no losses on the bottom end, and it makes about 25more hp up top with 1 lb LESS BOOST! These cams are good for an easy 30-35whp over the already awesome B cams.




I had some extra time on the dyno today, and since the car already had MS109E fuel in it, I figured I'd turn it up a bit after the cam testing was done to see what it would do. This is by no means the most power it will make. There is ALOT of tweaking left over in it. This is only about 32psi at redline. It is making peak power at an astounding 8700rpm!

Any pricing released on these? Spring requirements or lift/duration details.

When do we get more info about these AMS spec cams or are they going to be secret sauce only?

Bad ***! How do these behave at idle or very low-speed compared to the kelford's? I have been amazed at how docile the kelford cams are for a DD; if these can come anywhere close to as smooth they would be worth it! Thanks for the great review!

How well will these perform or act on a street set up with maybe a stock like turbo i.e. green or red?

Pricing is being finalized, but should be $674.95

These do require a spring upgrade. Depeding on where rpm you will be using them at and what boost, you may be able to use a single beehive spring.

The design criteria for these cams was to not lose any of the drivability from the cam swap, yet still use a larger/different profile on them. I am happy to report that they drive the same as the Kelfords which they were swapped out with.

These cams should perform just as well on green or red. With a green I might suggest a slightly smaller cam, but it really just depends on your goal for the car. Bolt on turbo's typically need a slightly smaller exhaust side, but no testing has been done with this yet. There would be no drawbacks from using this cam.

Quite exciting. A reasonable price so if you can keep them in stock <cough>GSC<cough> then you'll sell plenty of them.

I'd love to see a comparison between these and the GSC s2's.

I wish these would've been out when i got my GSC's as these look very very promising.

Great work AMS...maybe next time the head comes off my motor for a refresh I'll drop these in.

Curious if you could answer, who do you guys use for the grind on these? Kelford?
