My IveyTune Experience Part II - FP Red Content

Originally I brought the car to IveyTune with...

The mods:

Defi 52mm Boost Gauge
HKS Suction Reloaded Intake
HKS Intercooler Pipe Kit
HKS Legamax Mid-Pipe
HKS Legamax Axle-Back

...and dyno'd:

Then I decided I was ready for a little more power and added...

Latest mods:

FP Red Turbocharger
Deatch Werk 800cc Injectors
HKS Front Mount Intercooler

...and dyno'd:

Recap:
-OEM BCS is maxxed
-OEM fuel pump is maxxed
-OEM clutch is hanging on for dear life

Next:
-Clutch (when stocker gives up)
-Fuel pump
-Race gas map
-3 port boost solenoid or other solution
-More power

Overally I'm happy with the car as it continues to pull up top with ease. On the streets the car peaks around 24psi and holds about 23psi right to redline. Sean was a treat to deal with once again. Although I do think Sam needs a haircut...

Yes, I have a stock o2 housing/downpipe/cat. No, I don't have cams. No, the Red is not ported. I figured I'd post this now since I know the question(s) will be asked

I understand that you are maxed on a few items but those gains aren't very impressive. What's the point of getting tuned when you don't have all the parts necesary to maximize gains?

What's the point of doing it all at once and not seeing what each piece of the puzzle adds to the end result? I understand my 'gains' may not be 'impressive' but I am within 9whp of an MR that was just on Ivey's dyno ( Evo x MR sst Fp red + goodies at Iveytune ) with significantly fewer mods. Is it just the 5 speed vs the auto? Is it the combination of the parts each car has? I'm not sure, but I'm happy with my car at the current level. What you're saying is I shouldn't have got tuned after I did my first round of bolt on's because I planned to do more? If that were the case, nobody would ever get tuned. Baby steps. Max out each part, replace as necessary, see where the power comes from. Is it that unbelievable that I like to see what each step in the process gets me? Oh well, thanks for your opinion.

I'm just asking. There's no need to hop on the defense. As facetious as it may have read, it was a simple question. Many people do exactly what you're doing, you're not crazy. I'm just asking why go in for a tune with missing pieces of the puzzle. Why go in to get tuned KNOWING that you will need a fuel pump, aftermarket boost control and a stock clutch that can potentially start slipping on the dyno given your power levels. It just seems like a waste of time to me. Why not just cover all bases so you don't have to duplicate effort, wasting time and money in the process.

Why? I do it because there are always questions such as; How many hp can I make on the stock fuel pump? How good is the factory bcs? How much hp will the stock clutch hold? Etc, etc... Stock clutch is holding so far, bcs and fuel pump maxxed at ~365whp. Hopefully this information/research helps other members of the Evo X community when they are searching for aftermarket products to make power and direct them in such a manner where their money can be best spent

Fair enough. I'm sure when you add those few parts you will make a substantial amount more. Good luck with it and keep us posted.

My ultimate goal on pump gas is ~400whp. I think once I add clutch/fuel pump/ebc I'll be able to attain this fairly easily. The biggest decision down the road I have to make is A) Race gas tune B) Aquamist HFS-6.

Also...I'd be curious for Sean to chime in and see what his input would be on what he would add if this were his car. Where are you Mr. Ivey?
