Chris's 361whp stock turbo X GSR, O2 eliminator installed!

Chris has been a great faithful customer since he purchased his Evo X last year. He came to us for the installation of a catback and intake with ZChip and Forge UNOS MBC in October 2008. Chris was one of the first on the waiting list for the ZChip and got to take advantage of the first user tunable tuning interfaces released for the Evo X.

Back in October we installed his catback system, Forge UNOS and ZChip. We carefully mapped his ZChip to the tune of about 80whp gains. He was thrilled however the harmonics from the exhaust had triggered an ASC light periodically. He removed his exhaust and never got the ASC light again.

In excitement of the ZChip buzz, there were a few attempts at competing shops to try and slander, libel and defame the ZChip's performance gains. One shop in the state had even begged Chris to come on in and dyno there for free! Chris went ahead against our suggestion and dynoed his car at the competition (who was determined to try and ridicule the ZChip). To the competition's amazement, with the catback removed and back to stock exhaust with the ZChip and MBC alone, Chris's car still put out 322whp on a dyno that reportedly output stock Evo's at 250whp, a gain of 72whp.

Fast forward to this week.... Chris came back for his next set of modifications and monitoring equipment. He decided to join our bandwagon and intelligently invest in the Zeitronix ZT2 + Dashdaq combination ($599 @ TTP currently). He also decided to add the Kavlico medical grade boost sensor to 35.5psi and the EGT probe which could all be viewed on the 4" touchscreen LCD display.

Chris's choice of performance upgrades this time around consisted of an AMS O2 eliminator downpipe, Forge Motorsports wastegate actuator and a retune for the new parts. Chris still to this day is running the stock catback exhaust and a vibrant high flow catalytic converter.

We conferred for a little while on the most cost effective approach to tuning the car with the new mods. We recommended using the Forge WGA with modified duty cycle mapping by rpm on the dual boost solenoids. With this plan he is able to make the car look more stock-like, sell the manual controller and recoup some cash for some future mods. We settled on this plan and executed.

By the end of the late night and some ECU reflash tuning by Scott@TTP, Chris had a 361whp/353tq monster on factory ECU controlled boost without the need for a boost pill.

Here are the results of the nights work:

Here is the overlay of stock baseline vs. ZChip + MBC + catback vs. the latest set of modifications:

Do you think you'll make more with the boost pill?

No, all the pill does is give additional range for BCS duty cycle.

The Forge WGA only requires 60-70% main solenoid duty cycle with plenty of room to spare with barely any preload.

Yes, this platform has much potential even with a smaller turbo than the Evo 8 - 9.
