i found this on a couple of lancer forums and thought it was interesting there is still questioning about it and more information on how legit to come but its a nice alternative to the oem verison that coulod cost up to 2,000 if bought seperate from the dealer, and with this unit you dont lose the steering wheel controls and bluetooth that the 2010 evos have and i believe the 08 mrs have. so i hope this wasnt posted couldnt find it and hope it helps any1

It was discussed before. Basically it looks awesome and has a perfect OEM look. But.. it's still just a Windows CE device with a s***ty/proprietary front end coded to it... the type coding you get from sweatshop 3rd world country coders. I wouldn't waste the money on it.

If you want a Windows CE device, go with a Pioneer AVIC.. it does all the same things, it still looks nice, in some cases it can be found cheaper, has warranty and repair available, and the support community for mods/help is much broader.

Else, go with a Car-PC for a little more money and blow everything out of the water..

Bumping an old thread.

Anyone has this? Is it possible to get into the Windows CE interface directly similar to the Pioneers?

It looks great, and the specs look good.. but who in the heck knows how bad it sounds, or if the nav is really crummy. Although I'd be willing to bet that video playback while driving is allowed, and it probably plays a million audio/video codecs and any region DVDs as well, lol.

Might be fun to try out and maybe hack for $200 or $300, but I doubt anyone's gonna be the first to take a chance of wasting over $500 on it.

I wish they listed what type of OS the interfaces runs, that way you could atleast research some hacks or upgrades for it.

It's Windows CE. Unless you are a god with embedded systems and Windows Embedded, good luck. Most of the hardware IDs are going to be proprietary and the proper libraries to make anything work, you're going to have to write yourself. Hence why I said you're better off with a carputer for just a little more money.

Ya, a carputer would definitely be better.. but wouldn't look as OEM as this, and would cost quite a bit more for a decent setup.

Many stand-alone Navi's and even the Pioneer AVIC series run Windows CE, so I don't see how this model would be any different. But ya, I agree that regular Win x86 would be much easier to work with.

Its different than other embedded devices because it contains different hardware, different overlying programs, and a different bootloader. Each embedded device has it's own custom compiled Windows CE operating system based on the hardware specs. Hacks for one unit of a different brand doesn't mean it works for other devices.

Ya, didn't imagine that would be the case. I'm guessing that without a larger community of users with this same device, about the most I'd be able to manage on my own would be swapping out pictures and sounds for the front-end, and maybe customizing colors for the maps.

But you'd be surprised.. I have an ancient Navman GPS running over Win CE, and actually came across a small group of people that hacked it to allow access to the OS so that it could run any apps designed for ARM pocket PCs.. even TomTom, lol. And before that, I was able to figure out how to edit a few of the resource files and create a custom nighttime color scheme, all on my own =)
