able to track car with GPS?

is this possible? ive seen other items being able to be tracked via GPS chips integrated in them(laptops, etc)

so im curious if this is possible on our cars with using the current GPS built in through the MMCS.

You would have to get one of these, and sign up for a plan. http://www.brickhousesecurity.com/li...ingdevice.html

But he is asking if you can branch off the GPS module from the MMCS.
it looks like the one your looking at uses its own.

Even if you were to splice your MMCS GPS module to a USB, i doubt you would be able to find a driver for it as well as finding out the baud rate of the GPS unit itself.

im just going to say no.

The snag with GPS tracking is that the device being tracked has to actually transmit its position in order to be tracked, as GPS is a passive system (ie: GPS receivers only receive satellite data and deduce their position based on the signals). So that means that you would have to find a way to extract the position data from the MMCS and then transmit it back to yourself to track the car. Probably easier just to get a complete tracking solution.
