Convert Fastkey to Standard Key
I'm shopping for an aftermarket alarm and was wondering if anyone knew what all I would need to covert my Fastkey to a standard keyless entry system?(non-SSS Evos) I want to use the remote starter function but dont want to deal with having to keep the Fastkey on me also. Thanks in advance

No expert on this, but here's are some things you'll need:
1) two new standard keys
2) programming from the dealership to activate the keys
3) key hole for trunk
4) key hole for ignition (to replace the plastic black nubby thing)
Maybe some of the guys who have added an aftermarket alarm can chime in to tell you how their remote start (if they have it) is working with their stock fast key?

Thanks, I completely forgot about the trunk. Do you think both keyless entry systems use the same receiver in the car?

Ignition already has a key hole. The plastic nubby thing just covers the existing key hole and can be clipped off

it's a standard key ignition as far as I can tell. How else would you start your car if the battery in your fob died.

I realize how its designed to work if your Fastkey dies, but what I was asking is if it was the same as the base evos. Maybe its different and the base keys require a different ignition cylinder to operate correctly?

Standard key trunks don`t have keyholes. Fast key has the ugly circle thing on their trunks!

why wouldnt you just remove the battery from the remote if you dont want it to cause a conflict, keep everything you have, and just use the key as a key if your fast key stops working.
saves time and money...

It should work just fine, that's the back-up procedure if the battery in the key dies. You have to take out the metal key, flip it around and insert it into the fob, then use that to start the car using the keyhole. There's even a little picture stamped into the key.
If that doesn't work, you need to have it checked out because it could strand you.

yes it would, the immobilizer in the key does not need to be powered in order for it to work

Correct me if im wrong however my dealer told me the "key" can only be used twice before it shuts the car down and will need to be unlocked by a dealer.

Sounds like BS to me. Mitsubishi assumes that when your battery dies, the very first place you go is a dealership to get a replacement? Unlikely.
