$150 for map update (navi)
yeah... the map is 2006 put in a 2008 model. i don't get it. the first upgrade should be free.why do i need to pay for it. i will call the corporate for this. it's simple logic. it's 2 years behind.

The DVD upgrade (when it becomes available - AFAIK from a month ago, no new maps have been released) includes a dongle that must be loaded into the unit to perform the upgrade. The dongle enforces one-update-per-purchase.
I asked Don Herring Jr to complain on my behalf, and they told him that the 2006 maps were the latest available. This is what really chaps my hide: where I live (and the OP lives near me) to many roads around here have changed in the past four years (the map data is actually from 2005), the nav system is of very marginal usefulness.
regarding the dongle business - we have a plan to work around that, but it'll require a technical user.

Just spoke to my parts guy- MMNA has pushed back the availability of the map update, and it is now supposed to be released mid-May. Cost was not available yet (no part number), but the 2006 upgrade was $200.

For what it's worth, $200 is the going rate for nav data updates from Navteq. (I'm sure you intended the pun, I like it.)

Most all nav systems give you one upgrade for free, and especially since the current maps are so updated you'd think they'd give you a free pass for 1 update.
Have one person buy and then unlock the drive and replace the maps, problem solved.

I agree. You buy a 2008 model year car that's pre-loaded with 2005/6 maps. The least they could do is provide you with the 2008 maps for free when they become available. I could see if the car came pre-loaded with current maps and a few years later they want $200 for updated ones, I wouldn't complain about that.

I spoke with MMNA's customer relations department earlier today. They are showing that the map update will be available "mid-summer", but do not have a date, per se. While they do not have a plan in place to goodwill the map update, they suggested calling back when it's available and see what they say.

"Their" as in Mitsubishi or Navteq? If its Mitsu, do you have a link (it'd make a much stronger case for the goodwilling the map update)?

Yeah, I was doing some digging and came across that thread (the EM map update). I'm more interested in seeing the differences between the Mitsu disc and the same vintage Navteq data (not sure if its High or Professional, but that'll be obvious when I get one) so that we can update maps when we want, not just when Mitsu wants us to.
