so just curious, how is this system holding up sound wise. Compareable to stock. Also what wire in the harness did you tap for the VSS wire for the navigation. Im about to do this and it would be a huge help

also it looks like you went yellow from the new harness to the red white of the stock harness. Is that what you meant to say. Are the wire colors in the car flopped compared to the aftermarket radio.

thansk

It sounds just like the factory with the sound field turned off. The Alpine Nav doesn't use the VSS. It gets its speed from the GPS module, its right on, give or take a MPH.

k, what do you mean by the cound field? Do you mean on the stock stereo the pop, rock, dance selection? Also i know you left the bass and trebel; and mid at 0 on the stock but did you turn the punch setting up at all on the stock or leave that 0 too.

Are you still able to get the same bass out of the system now.

Just want to make sure this is the right decision for us, for now

please help.

Trying to install tomorrow and my volt mete is not working.

By soundfield I mean the "rock", "jass", "classical", etc and the settings for "hall", "stadium" and "stage".

That’s good that you found the VSS wire, please post that info some were for others that may not know.

Its been awhile now since I installed that radio but I remember my post being correct about the wire colors and no one has corrected me yet.

The fuse for the radio is far bigger than needed and will be more than enough for the old radio and the new radio. The new radio will draw much less than 1amp @12VDC without using the on board 50x4 amp. The factory old radio will only draw 250mA @12VDC or so (0.25amps) The radio wires are 18awg and can handle 10amps but my rule of thumb is to keep it less than 6amps on 18awg wire or it can get warm.

Also,
hook up the new radio and get it working. Then plug the old dash into the HVAC and play with the controls for the factory radio. change the volume, soundfields, bass, etc until it sounds the way you like. Then unhook it and finish the install.

hm...is there a more elegant way to approach this? it just screams ghetto to require the original HU sitting inside the dash...

PGH,
how does it work for you?
Did you find a treble/mid/base and soundfield setting that sounds good for you?

oh i know the harness doesn't exist yet...but i can't shake the thought that there has to be a better way to do this. whether it be splicing, soldering, etc...i dunno. my curious self is running loose, so maybe i'll experiment as well.
