CT9A Chassis Weakpoints

5/6/2012

Something I've started looking into, chassis stiffening etc. What would you guys say are the biggest weakpoints in the ct9a's chassis?

::edit::

i'd like to expand this discussion to all suspension/inherent weaknesses of the chassis and suspension - i.e., our rear suspension setup is commonly known to be a weakpoint

Areas for improvement (outside of a cage and coilovers):
- Fender bracing
- Chassis stiffening/harness bar
- Rear trailing arm bushings
- Front control arm bushings
- Roll center adjuster
- Bumpsteer kit
- Antilift kits?

Other conclusions:
- Not much outside of a cage will have huge effect on preserving the car's chassis
- There's not a lot that will actually induce flex in the car's chassis
- Doesn't seem like any of those Cusco chassis reinforcement parts do much, despite how week the stock chassis braces look

good thread for reference: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...-robispec.html

Looking for constructive comments/suggestions regarding our chassis,
please no 'evo chassis is the best in the world' comments.

A good builder will "fully seam weld" a rally car.

true, and track cars will weld in a cage etc.. more looking in terms of where the stock ct9a chassis has got its weak spots that we need to use bracing etc to help it

MotoIQ used to have a good article. Gone now though... Jist of it was Nagisa Auto Gacchiri Support fender bracing and Cusco front center, center and side power bracing to seriously reduce frame flexing.

Found it! It was hidden in the brakes article - I'm still searching for where they add the works triangular strut brace and the cusco braces though. To be honest I'm not entirely convinced how much bracing the cuscos do.

I was told by Robert Fuller of Robispec (an extremely experienced suspension tuner and very successful in racing circles) that the fenders actually flex quite a bit under corner loading. I forget the specific effects but he said that's like one of the first things people should be addressing as far as chassis stiffening goes, and possibly even before other suspension upgrades. It's an issue apparently on my Eclipse as well. I know this is vague and hearsay to boot, but thought I'd offer this up. Perhaps you can coax someone more knowledgeable in the specifics for a better explanation

Ultra racing makes a nice looking fender brace. They also make a nice lower side brace. I have been trying to figure out where they tie the outer bar in the rear. In their pic's, you can't see where it is but if they tied it to the control arm, it would really make a difference on how stiff the chassis would be.

What do you guys think of a bracing like this?

http://oswaldperformance.com/WRXFRONTSUBFRAME.aspx

This guy custom makes sick parts for subies.. I've talked to him before he's in like AZ or something doesn't have an evo to test parts on

PS he only charges 600 shipped for that part.. somebody lend that man an evo!

added to first psot
