Exclamation Track Tested: Federal 595RS-R

Heres all the data that I acquired over the weekend at ACS running the Federal 595RS-R street tire in a 255/40/17 in all four corners. The UTQG rating of the tire is a 140AA/A... The tire temps are pretty funky most likely due to using a hand held IR reader instead of a prob.

My car is a 2006 Evo making 370hp on 91octane at 26psi. It weighs a whopping 3433lbs w/out the driver. I'm also running about 3*degrees up front and 1.8*degrees in the rear...

Surprisingly the tires held up great. I never felt the tires greasing out during an entire 25min session... I would enter T1 at 140-147mph and maintain 130-135mph through the entire banking, almost breaking the 2G barrier with the tires at that...! The durometer also showed that the tires were actually softer than what we started with when I checked at the end of the day...!

Braking with the 595RS-R's was very impressive with the ST-43 pads. Scrubbing off the 135mph T2 exit speed coming into T3 at 40mph was pretty confident inspiring.

Tire wear is surprisingly minimal. I dont have pics of the tires as of yet but will shortly...

flame on....

The discrepancy in tire width is rather pronounced. Are you going to run these for DD duty? If you do I'm interested in your impressions in that regaurd.

Data **** is awesome.

Can you messure from peak sidewall to peak sidewall? On both tires?

Good feedback Matt. Any word on available sizes and vendors that carry Federal?

the only true road characteristics that I have experienced is that they are a little loud... but then again I have my rear seats removed, so their is no muffling of sound...

they may wear rather quickly due to the 140 UTQG. But they should last an entire summer with spirited driving just like any other comparable tire though...

I'll see what I can do about the sidewall measurement... a 255/ Federal 595RS-R looks more in the range of a 265... you should be able to purchase Federals through OnlineTires.com or anyone that uses TDW (Tire Dealers Warehouse) as their distributor...

I'm going to keep these in mind when it comes time for some new HPDE rubber.

I noticed that these Federal's were quieter than my worn Sumitomo HTR Z III. Also had a better ride, but I think that is because the Federals have stiffer sidewalls thus allowing me to run less tire pressure.

BTW I have Matt's old 235-45-17 tires. Great so far, but I have yet to test them out in the Canyons.

I am surprised to see ANY Federal tire do so well. I have owned Federal in the past and the tread wear is the only thing positive I could say about them. Otherwise they were trash and a complete waste of money. I have hopes that these might be better than past Federals because they are usually pretty inexpensive when compared to other brands so they would be an economical track option. Subscribed for future updates.

pretty much the tires performed great. I have been tracking the Nitto NT05 for the past year and a half and loved the tire. But compared to these, the 595RS-R just flat out spanked it. I would go no more than 3 hot laps with the nt05 and would have to take an easy lap just to let the tires cool down, but these lasted all day long without ever feeling uncomfortable. And I was even trying to over drive them just to see where the limit was, hitting 135mph at 1.7g's in a 14*degree NASCAR bank says a lot...
