Braking issue at 65+

Here is the issue im having. its an 05 Evo that has recently been acting up when braking at 65+. Anything under than and the brakes are solid and can easily stop the car. Once I get to 65 and touch the brakes the pedal is rock solid and gives me feedback like the ABS is kicking in. Once the speed drops back below 60 the brakes go back to normal. I can reproduce this issue over and over and so far everyone ive asked seems puzzled. There is not a CEL or Anit Lock light on while driving normal and staying under 65. But if i hit the highway and cruise over 65 is when i get a Anti lock light that comes on. And to make things worse, once the light comes on and im over that 65 the brakes seem fine.

So, im stumped and i dont feel like getting bent over by the dealership and pay them to find nothing.

Any ideas?

Perhaps a wheel speed sensor malfunction... something along those lines.

Does the ABS work like normal at speeds below 65?

Does the light go away on its own immediately when you drop speed? Does it stay on for a while?

i can slam down on the brakes at any speed below 65 and not have an issue.. i had the car out in some heavy rain in an open lot and was seeing if the abs worked at like 35-40 and it was fine. The light will come on once i cruise over 65 for about a mile and stay on until i shut the car off.. once restarted no light.

I have not personally done this, I can check when I get home, but I THINK EvoScan can check ABS codes.

See if you can find someone (perhaps the folks that tuned the car) with EvoScan to check for codes before the light goes away. Should tell you exactly what's wrong. If not, Mitsu can probably scan it for like $40 dollars or so...

Even if the light isn't currently on, the car with "store" the code, so code readers with still be able to see them. I'd check it with some sort of reader that with read ABS codes.

It does look like you can use EvoScan to check for ABS codes. I ran a test and it seemed to work, but I have no codes so I cannot verify.

In the mean time take a look at the one on there now. It might just need a little attention.

It is very uncommon for an ABS sensor to fail especially on a car as new as yours. Might just need to hit it with some brake cleaner or something.

Or perhaps the wire was damaged, look to see if anything snagged the line.
