thoughts on Dunlop winter sport 3D winter tires

Hey guys,

Ive got a buddy that is moving to Florida and wants to sell me his winter tires. He says there is about 8k miles on them.

The tires are Dunlop Winter Sport 3D XL V speed rating. 225/45/17 These were on his 05 STI 225 should be fine for the evo as well correct? Im pretty sure that you want a thinner tire for the winter anyway.

Anybody ever had these tries?

Also what do you think an acceptable price would be. I think he was originally asking 400 for them they are 149 a piece new on tire rack. I was thinking more like 300 for the set. They have one season on them and im sure one more is ok but i doubt two seasons.

Thanks for any info

-Ethan

You're right. 225/45/17's would work great for winter.

IMO, $400 is too much to ask for 8k miles on them... $300 or less would be better.

I don't have any knowledge on that tire, but go to the tire rack & discount tire website and read reviews.

Similar overall diam to stock, fits the oe wheel, and makes load. Don't see why they wouldn't work. Cost... really not sure.

Tire is way too hard for a snow tire.

IMO, I do not like em. I had to drift my boss's car into the bay due to these tires. They would not grab ANY traction in little snow uphill.

we decided on 300. Too much? I figure I'll get at least one season out of them. Not much more prob.

I had Wintersport M3's (now discontinued). I drove on them summer and winter for 3 years. The last winter the tread was starting to become a little thin and I noticed a reduction in traction. I put maybe 40K on these tires and they still had tread.

I have some Wintersport 3Ds on my Evo X in wider form. They performed great this past winter in Chicago. I think they are the highest rated performance snow tire on tirerack.

$300 would be a fair price for used snow tires with that mileage.

My dad runs these on his GTO and seems to love them in the Minnesota winters.

they are some awsome tire. price depends on the amount of tread left and condition. I just sold my old set for $100 w/ 50% tread left.

thinner is better, i ran that same size when i dd'ed my 06 sti. i went through 18 inches of snow in up ny when she was slammed on coilovers.

thats an awesome tire also, i personally have never ran them but have driven them due to me having friends with wrx's and sti's that run them in the winter.

I have a set on my subaru impreza daily driver. They are a very good winter performance tire for the money. This will be my 3rd season of winter driving on this set and I have a fair amount of spring time driving on them as well. I expect to get 1 more season out of them after this because they wear great.

These are a great tire for people who don't need a deep snow tire and have to do a fair amount of driving on plowed roads.

$300 is a fair price if they don't have any uneven wear. At 8K miles they should almost look new.
