How can I make my evo ride smoother
I know it's the evo's MO to be a more rough ride, But i've owned one for a while now and DD the car all the time. A couple mods to make a nice ride wouldn't hurt.
I don't auto cross the car so a full coil over wont be necessary but, can anyone recommend any springs or mods they've done that would help?
I drive a Evo VIII GSR stock suspension, it's getting close to the 100k mark so replacing some old parts with new ones never hurt

Just get a set of used Bilstein MR dampers or new Bilstein HD dampersand you're set.
Use them with stock springs or add Swifts for a drop, or our springs for a more mild drop and more suspension travel.

No but really, the EVO doesn't like to be lowered very much....nasty things start happening to the suspension geometry and you run out of travel quick. The geometry can be fixed to a small extent with the WL roll center kit. But for travel, that's the big tradeoff when you lower the car.
You NEED travel for the damper to do it's work. It's not designed to be sitting on the bumpstops, which a lot of springs end up doing. OR they are very close to them even after they've been cut.
So that's why with our springs we stock with a mild drop of 20mm front and 15mm rear, which with our firmer spring rates keep you away from the bumpstops as much as possible and you can feel the damper doing it's thing rather then just crashing over bumps. Mid corner bumps don't upset the chassis, you can put the power down easier, etc.
Our rates are a bit firmer then the Swifts (which are still good springs), but with the milder drop you still get great ride quality. Other springs might look better, but ours were designed for performance first.
Cliff notes: I think they're pretty good.

GT Worx made my Evo even more enjoyable to drive, ride is 100times better than stock but then I moved from VIII RS spec springs, may have been harsher than GSR springs

Bilstein MRs or HDs - great around town ride.
Swift Sports are great springs! I am in the process of installing the Spec Rs - will be done today. My review on those will be up very soon. But the Sports are great around town or on the track.
The Spec Rs are stiffer like the GTWorx springs - both are great.

Eibach Prokit springs even on stock GSR shocks ride incredibly smooth. Just took a road trip in my buddy's Evo this past weekend loaded down with a full trunk and 4 big guys and it rode really nicely.

Yup yup! I love my car on the Eibach Prokits. The price was right, fitment was perfect, drop was nice, and they ride awesome. Some day I'll put in bilstein dampeners (MR or HD) for the ultimate smoove riding evo.
Swifts are nice too, but a noticeably more firm than the prokits.

Are the bilstein hd's a direct bolt on replacement for the stock IX struts?

My $.02
Installed GTWorx and MR Bilsteins yesterday. Car is very smooth. When I lowered the rack and the car sat on the ground for the first time I thought it was ideal. Very streetable, no body parts hitting the ground while going over driveways, dips, etc. Girlfriend gave the new suspension a thumbs up cuz her boobies do not shake now (sucks for me). More info coming soon.

Get the small brake kit, run some 16" wheels and a nice 225/60/16. That squishy sidewall will give you a cadillac style ride.

As the others have said, go for a set of MR Bilsteins. Probably the most cost effective way to get to where you want. If you've got 100k on your existing suspension, probably ANYTHING will be better than what you have.
