All this talk of broken Quaifes has me worried. I bought a Quaife thinking I'd have less to worry about than I did with my RS lsd's. Kind of funny that Buschur and many others with high hp drag cars have never even broken an RS diff...yet a lot of us with less hp on autox or similar launches have shattered them and broken Quaifes
I bought my Quaife used. I guess I better try and get the warranty card. I'm sure my launches will be more conservative from now on though too.

I dont see how you break quaife's, I guess if your getting wheel hop with a tilton clutch you could. On something like an exedy tripple you should be fine as long as your not getting massive wheel hop.

My RS diffs broke with zero wheel hop. The car didn't even move on launch. No tire slippage. It was even done with street tires. I have an Exedy twin clutch. I would HOPE that a Quaife would be much much stronger than an RS diff though.

OP, I dont know how much boost you run, but almost positive your not pushing 400whp on an evo 8 with your mods. I know you probably like to tell people thats what you have, or think that but i dont think so.

Ok. Just to put the info out there. I talked to John Shepherd and he told me that RS diffs are unpredictable and he's not all that surprised a low hp evo would break one. He also said that the RS or Quaife does NOT need shimmed and is designed to float a little. He said that just use the fiber thrust washers and install it...nothing special. No shimming or anything needed.
He also said that the Quaife will not break. Or at least it shouldn't. Its much stronger.
I did notice on my RS and many of the other broken ones that they break right around the four diff bolts. Mine snapped around every single one of them and fell into pieces when I pulled it out of the carrier. The Quaife isn't designed the same and doesn't use the weak bolt design like the RS does.
