Air Bag removal - after deployment?

Had my airbags deploy last year and decided to turn the car into a track car. So, instead of replacing the airbags, the shop just cut them off and done.

So I'm trying to clean things up a bit and wanting to remove all the extraneous SRS airbag parts. I've read how to remove the airbag, but this is a bit different since it's been deployed...I think.

Once I pulled the steering wheel off, there is a a yellow wire ribbon that is still connected to the inside of the steering column. My question - what is this? What should I do with it? Keep it or cut it?

The yellow ribbon is your clockspring and you will need that for the horn I believe but just remove the 2 bolts in the side of the wheel and the bag will come out but you may wan't a new clock spring.

Airbag deployments in evos will need the following parts replaced
Dash
drivers bag
clockspring
steering column
seatbelts
windshield
and depending on the year it may need a new srs ecu

Btw once the drivers bag deploys the clockspring will need replaced or in your case just cut it since once it comes apart it is no longer any good.

Yeah, I'm not interested in replacing it. It's mainly a track car now so it's just less weight!

I would like to have a horn back if possible. If the yellow ribbon is not part of it; sounds like I can trash it. I thought the black wire was the horn?

I am not 100% sure but the ribbon I know goes to the bag so I guess it would make sense that the bigger wire is for the horn.

Here's how things look now.

Here's the pic of the wheel with everything removed. And the other pic are the spare parts. I wonder if I can make some kind of filler; maybe out of CF or something to fill in the hole? How do the RS wheels look there?

I still don't understand why the steering column would need replacing? I've fixed 2 wrecked Evo's neither of which needed steering column's. This car is not German where it drops to prevent injury.

Also the SRS Module can easily be reset vs paying a fortune for a new one. Yes, even permanent fault codes from airbag deployment.

RS wheels are the same as yours used to be, RS version comes with airbags.
