Post HOW TO: Replace Cabin Air Filter

I decided to do this the other day after hearing about how dirty these filters get after only a few thousand miles. With 34xxx miles on the clock I figured mine was ripe for a change. Instead of spending over $45 for the OEM filter, I decided to try out the TYC replacement instead. TYC is a respected parts manufacturer and provides many OE cabin air filters. This is a very simple and worthwhile install. As you can see, the service manual suggests replacing the cabin air filter at every service interval. It's especially important for all you 03 VIII owners since your cars didn't even have a filter installed from the factory . With a new filter you will notice better smelling air and less dust/pollen in the cabin.

You will need:
--1x OEM Cabin Air Filter MN185231 for $42.09 + shipping
or
--1x TYC Cabin Air Filter for ~$22.31 shipped

--Phillips head screwdriver
--Opposable Thumbs

Total Time:
~5mins

Difficulty (1=easiest, 10=most difficult):

Step 1:
Remove your glovebox by pressing in the tabs on the upper corners of the box. The glovebox will then hang down and you can simply pull up on the box itself to remove it from its hinges.

Step 2:
Remove the two screws holding the old filter in place. Once the screws are removed, slide out the old filter. Once the filter is removed, simply slide in the new filter (air flow arrow pointing down) and reuse both screws.

Step 3:
Replace glovebox.

Step 4:
Enjoy the clean air and marvel at how dirty your old filter was.
