HOW TO: Make your own shorty Antenna
I posted this up on NCE so I thought I share with the rest of you all. 
I did this MOD on another forum for another car. So when I got the EVO it was one of the first things I wanted to do. But I never got around to it, untill now.
We have all seen the HOW TO make a stub antenna by practically cutting the antenna off at the base and leaving the stub. Thats cool and all but I found a way to make the original antenna about half (or however long you want it) as long.
FYI: My hands are not ashy
there from plastic gloves that I was wearing because I was doing this while I was waiting for paint to dry. (see how to link in signature). Yes, I know my kitchen is dirty. Im filipino I love to cook :P
Materials:
Boiling Pan (or Pot)
Water
Salt (optional)
Antenna
Pliers
Cutter (or something to cut with)
Cost: FREE (unless you need to buy any of the above)
1. First gather your materials. (Shown: Pliers and Antenna)
2. Add water to your Pan (or Pot). Just enough to submerge the antenna and bring to a boil. Add salt to the water to speed the process up.
3. At this point your going to add the end of your antenna to the boiling water. Dont just leave the antenna in the boiling water make sure to rotate or turn it periodically. This is so that you wont get the rubber to melt to your pan.
4. Now once hot enough take your pliers and try to pry off the rubber tip. Twise it, Turn it, Loosen it. Then it will eventually come off. If its still difficult to pull off put it back into the water, perhaps the rubber isnt soft enough.
5. Lower the heat down to a LOW so that its still warm but not boiling and drop the tip you just loosened back into the pot.
6. Measure how much you want to cut off from you antenna. In this case I measure about half and cut with your cutting tool of choice. If you want stubby cut close to the base if you want close to stock length cut at top.
7. Now on the freshly cut piece grab the softened rubber end with your pliers and begin to put it back on the cut end of your now shortened antenna. This will take a little bit of muscle and maybe some cutting of the plastic wrap that is around our antennas.
8. Make your final adjustments and look at the finished product. (I know the tip looks crooked but its before I forced it down more and did a little cutting)
9. Put it back on the car and enjoy your free mod.

To be honest with you in the area that I live in it does not. But obviously you might find some reception lost in difference places however not that noticeable.

did this last night, only took off like 1" as it was marking my wing and can always cut more if needed
good stuff
i used a dab of hot glue on the end to make sure the tip doesn't runaway

This is a good idea, but seeing that the base of my stock antenna dried and cracked apart, (reason I upgraded to the Perrin 2" stubby) I would just go ahead and get an aftermarket one IMO. Sweet idea for a free mod though. My buddy with a IX just chopped his off right at the top of the stub and said it worked fine after. Not my cup of tea. Your idea looks cleaner. The Perrin 2" just looks so clean and sleek.

reception wasn't that much affected but it did dry rot and was replaced with an err amm original jdm looking regular antenna from a well known dealer in florida, cost me a whole $7 with taxes

FYI. Antenna lengths have a determined length for a reason. They are tuned for the frequencies that are intended to receive
Adjusting the length will certainly affect reception
