Thanks!

Awesome job, Joe. I couldn't believe no one else had done any form of a write-up back when we had to replace my clutch this summer. I wanted to make one and tried to enlist the help of other board members experienced in this. No takers.

Anyways, great job and thanks for taking the time to do this.

I am about to do my own tranny job, but i cannot say i am well experienced. Seems like a simple job, just gotta take things off the right way. I have never done anything near this, but wanna learn on my evo. What is the hardest part of this process? I am starting today.

simple...well if if you have the right tools anything can be simple. I would say the hardest part of the job was disassembly. There are some tight a** bolts. Good luck!

I just made a few updates to the how-to. Scroll to the bottom of the 1st thread.

Awesome write-up!...I'm really tempted in trying this myself, but ->my<- main concern is trying to get the tranny back in...i got another gearbox, and that sucker is heavy as hell trying to "finagle" it back up in there...did you guys use a jack? or did you bench press that thing?...what was your technique?

benchpress...bricks, a jack, my stomach...we used all the tools available! :lol

Make sure to have someone around to help you lift the beast into the car, it is nearly impossible to position it and match the splines without some help. Good Luck!

Joe's evo8.. you are THE man... Bishi... cudos to you as well.. To do the clutch from a garage floor on your back.. wow. I was under my car with everything out and OMG it is a 4-5 hour job each way using air tools with the car on a lift.. I am so glad I had mine done at my dealer's shop as a "favor". Any of you who have not had a FWD tranny out beware. You are in for a real struggle as this job is NOT a piece of cake and is no project for the inexperienced.

well if i was inexperienced before I am no longer inexpereineced....whatever I didn't know I learned real damn quick. I was doing a friends car and I told him I could handle it, there were a few times i wanted to walk away and never come back. We figured it out and his car is running great. It is tedious to do this job!

well i am currently in the process of doing this.....it is simple, the hard part i'd say....is remembering where to put which bolt where cuz theyre laying around everywhere. I am only the helper of this job. The mechanic doesnt wanna follow this write up whatsoever so he didnt remove the crossmember cuz he has to mess wit the steering so he is now gonna lift the entire engine along wit the TC and Tranny outta there. tsk tsk hard headed people.

removing the crossmember does not require messing with the steering. You are refering to the wrong crossmember. Your mechanic removing the engine seems like a real real waste of time, and possibly your money. Although if he didn't want to look at this write up thats fine some people have done with out it and I have received a PM or two about how it sucks...I tell them to make something better, and I haven't got one reply yet!

The only thing I don't have is pictures...but the service manual works just fine too!

Definetely a nice detailed writeup. I was asked many times to post up a how to but I just never had the patience to do it. One thing I must say to everyone is that just because it sounds "easy" on paper, I would suggest to anyone to not do this on the garage floor. Im sure there were many moments of frustration, cusing, peeled knuckles and tired shoulders that you left out of the write up. It is a very doable job, but the pain it can become may not add up to the few hundred bucks it costs to let someone do it for you. What can take 8-10 hours on your back takes me 2 1/2 hours on my lift. I honestly give you credit for doing this write up and it is on point, good job!
