Smile HOW TO: AEM UEGO serial cable

assuming you have already installed the gauge itself, this is for anyone who wants to know how to make the serial cable for logging.

this was just my method. opinions may vary...

as you can see the instructions as per AEM is pretty straight forward. blue wire to no. 2 pin and black/ground to no. 5 pin.

i purchased a db9/rs232 female connector from radio shack for $2.19 and soldered the wires to the pins. the pins are labeled so you cant really go wrong.

next i crimped and soldered connectors to the ends of the serial cable in this configuration. i'll explain why later.

your serial cable should look a little something like this...length may differ

in the car...

ignition power and ground for the gauge itself comes from my radio harness adaptor.

if you've noticed, the ground is bolted to body. the ground for the serial cable will also use this ground.

here, ive connected everything together. the gauge gets its power from the ignition source and is grounded through the body. connect the blue wire for the serial cable and the ground wire, which at the same time is grounded through the body.

and in this picture, ive disconnected the serial cable completely. but because of the configuration of the serial cable, i am able to still maintain a clean connection with the gauge.

thanks and enjoy.

the white is an analog 5v output. can be used with AEM EMS or can go into the 75pin slot on the stock 8 ECU for wideband logging without a serial cable.

basically, if you're using a serial cable to log AFRs on Evoscan, you can just leave it alone.

picked up a gigaware and the appropriate connector for my AEM. So sick of fussing with random ground offsets in the stock ecu splicing method. WOT is 1-2 off every time and the idle is never even close.

using 0.03913*x+(anywhere from 7 to 10)
