Best way to install/remove bushings

I'm looking at installing the Perrin PSRS as well as some other suspension bushings this winter and was wondering if I 'have' to have a shop press or can I do it another way with a ball joint kit, or...

If I can avoid taking the stuff to a machine shop, that would be great (I will if I have to though).

Press them out then in

Harbor freight tools sells a press for $100 or so. Definitely worthwhile!

For those you will want to use a shop press with a proper sized die. A harbor freight kit will push the old rubber bushing out, but leave the metal ring in the control arm. You want it all out. If you went with the offset psrs make sure you line up your marks with a straight edge and use a sharpie to put reference marks to line up with when you press the new bushings in. Hope this helps.

So a press it is, I was hoping to get away with not needing one. How would I get the metal ring out? Pliers and a lot of swearing? Also, I'm unfamiliar with presses, do I need a workbench or will it work on my garage floor?

No you'll want an anchored press bench to press those suckers out

You could try cutting the old metal ring and then using a pair of pliers to pull the pieces out. Remember lube is your friend.

Its not worth cutting it. Just get it pressed out at a good machine shop. Definitely worth it
